Ever since Godric's mysterious poisoning, accidental or otherwise, the Stormhold Council had lost faith in their once trusted leader. It was Godric's co-founder of Stormhold and old friend, Vlar, who had the courage to openly oppose him. Recently the "Usurper," as the Greycliff supporters have named him, was finally able to wrestle control from the aging statesman. Godric was banished from the ranks of the free-peoples of Windmere.

Godric wandered the land for a time searching for a suitable new home but refused to submit to the suffocating yoke of Lord British's law. He felt lost and alone in absence from his beloved homeland. He had only his faithful steed to keep him company. As he pondered this depressing fact an idea suddenly came to him. "This is a sign from the Avatar," Godric thought to himself. "I've grown complacent and fallen from the path of virtue." And with that Godric took hold of Guinness' reins and set out to find appropriate offerings to make at each of the eight ancient shrines of virtue.

Godric slew many elder gazers before he found a suitable offering. He placed the magical war mace on the altar of honesty but he did not recieve that which, when you possess it, means all may rely on your every word in return.

When Godric offered the battle axe torn from the last ogre lord's hand at the desert shrine of compassion he did not earn the quality that compels one to share the journeys of others.

After a few a messy mistakes and a truly epic victory the pair learned that discretion may very well be the better part of valor. Having learned this lesson, Godric offed the finest sword from the ancient wyrm's treasure but he did not hear that which answers when great deeds are called for.

Godric and Guinness offered up their own brand of justice before they did so with the executioners sword. It did not earn them that which should be the same for nobles and serfs alike.

They sent the lich lords of Deceit to the graves they should have lain down in eons ago. When Godric offered the gauntlets won from the undead he did not become that which is loath to place the self above all else.

When the offering taken from the blood elementals was offered Godric felt no more like that which skirks no duty than he did before.

Godric wrenched the next offering from the clutches of the Lord of the Abyss but that which, in knowing the self, knows all did not present itself to him.

After pulling a final offering from the tentacles of the Harrower and meditating at the shrine of humility Godric had not gained that which serfs are born with, but nobles must strive to attain.

This was all very disappointing to Godric. He felt no more virtuous than he was before and had gained nothing more than a story to tell. Godric sat down where he was and mourned his miserable position in life. After some time Guinness grew tired of watching his master's pitiful wallowing and began to wander off. Now Godric had always kept a good eye on his pets and Guinness had never tried to leave before but seeing his faithful steed's rear-end leaving him behind gave Godric an idea! He knew someone who liked stories. A very powerful someone who liked stories. Perhaps Godric could trade his story for political asylum. Godric jumped up and ran to catch up to his mount. "C'mon, Guinness," he shouted, "we're off to see the wizard. . . the wonderful wizard of Paws."

(That's right. . . I have found myself guildless. Please consider this story my request for admission into your fine fellowship.)

Your deeds were noble, Sir Godric, and the fruit of your journey will not go unnoticed.

There are many signs and portents to be wary of, in the coming months, and the Village of Paws has a keen sense as to what might await us in the future.

As Steward, and with the good council and endorsement of the old grey wizard, I can say that you may well have found a home with us.

I would like to meet up with you and Jupiter both in the coming days and talk about this....hmm....Usurper, and be made aware of the finer details of your transition out of that very prominent guild, sir!

I myself am dealing with an illness that I cannot seem to shake. Perhaps they are related.....perhaps not. Either way, I look forward to our meeting and to hearing more of your tale, as well as hearing what Jupiter has to say on the matter!

Be well and be safe! Until then, sir Godric.

Hmm, so that crazy Vlar finally took over Stormhold then? Did he use his army of scantily clad archer women? I think he calls them his Valkyries right? I should have gotten him with that vanquishing butcher knife when I had the chance! I'm sure Jupiter and the rest of us Pawsians would be happy to have you in our ranks.

    I deem your Honor: Truthful
    I deem your Honesty: Pure
    I deem your Compassion: Full
    I deem your Valor: Courageous
    I deem your Justice: Meted
    I deem your Sacrifice: Worthy
    I deem your Spirituality: Peaceful
I deem your Humility: Lowly and meek

I deem your story: Venerable beyond any word I possess in my vocabulary to express.

Of course Lord Godric can find Asylum within our wooded glades! I have heard of the rumors and know that there was turmoil with the stone of Stormhold. What impresses me most, is that the Great Lord Godric when faced with a bloody civil war (cleansing of the stone) decided it better to step down from this lofty throne. You sir are too humble to admit that, so I will proclaim your humility for you.

Since Vlar, your kin in Sosaria and on earth, has taken the reigns of Stormhold, we will keep our standing relations open and you may still enjoy open companionship with your fellows albeit not as a king. Personally I believe you will find it is easier to mingle with the commoners when you travel as one of them and not above them.

I look forward to your official initiation ceremony. I am hoping Lord Krake has polished up his ceremony. I plan on being in attendance, but I will defer to Krake to officiate again if he is willing.

Indeed I have, and it would be my pleasure of officiate the ceremony. I am hoping we can get a large retinue of people gathered for the occasion.

Let us start talking about when this joyous event might take place! Hence!

Just to clarify my motivations for anyone not already acquainted: I've been the GM of the Citizens of Stormhold since it's inception. Recently I went through a period of inactivity. During this time I tried to turn the stone over to Jebidiah at Redding's request. The change to the stone did not take but I never heard anything about it so I wasn't really worried. When I became active again I found that my main character was still the GM and Vlar had erected an alternate stone. Since that time Vlar and I have played around with the stone a few times and Telamon himself has tried to 'force' a new GM on the stone. None of the changes have lasted more than a day. After some experimentation we've found that no matter how many guildmembers swear their loyalty to another GM the stone will revert to me if my main character is on the stone.

I'm quite active now and more than capable of administering the stone but Vlar has already been running things for some time. I see no reason to deprive Vlar this burden if he wants it. On top of that, other members have expressed interest in returning the alternate stone to it's original purpose: that of war stone. So essentially mechanics of the game have made my main character a bit of a fly in the ointment. I'm in the way of my own guilds activities if I remain.

Jupiter can attest that my play-style/hot-keys present a distinct danger to myself (and perhaps others) should I remain unguilded. I could certainly just toss up a meaningless dummy stone to prevent my inevitable guard-whackings but where's the fun in that? I've worked with the other members of the Citizens of Stormhold for quite awhile to make the ['S'] tag respectable and trustworthy. If I have to replace it I'd like to replace it with another tag worthy of trust and respect.

So, basically, less drama than you'd expect for a longtime guildmaster defecting to another stone. I've often considered joining characters to other guilds as a show of support but this would barely even be a token gesture if I didn't play the character. Fate (or game mechanics) has simply provided me with a worthy opportunity to properly show this support. But the story above is slightly more interesting. . . especially that part about Vlar the Usurper.

These emergency powers are only temporary and once the terrorist threat has passed I will of course relinquish them back to the ruling co-equal council. ;)
