I was disappointed to learn that you can no longer receive mining gloves from smith BODs. I have read back in the proper patch notes, and seen what it says about it. I get that there were tons of them being generated, but how about leaving the say 50/50 chance from the 10&15 exceptional iron ringmail Lbod? I do find it sad that there is no way for a traditional crafter to obtain these anymore Also it says that the BOD reward chart would be updated, but that was some time ago (before I even started playing), and it still is not... I understand that the staff here is very busy, but I do think it is very important to not mislead people that have not dug into old patch notes. I would be more than happy to do some work on editing the current BOD reward list myself, if I was given the proper information to do so. Also I would like to wager my desire for having at least some way for a traditional crafter to obtain mining gloves, without having to battle mine golem lords, to do that work Any opinions or support from the community regarding this?
I could have sworn I read somewhere that mining gloves were tested and do utterly nothing anyway. Haven't they been broken for an eternity?
Dalavar had a thread about it: http://uorforum.com/threads/gloves-of-mining.4063/#post-29558 Looks like his conclusion was that they do not help with actual mining of ore, but they do help smelting. Others thought that may have been how they actually worked on OSI. I posted in another thread about this, but there is something like 300 +5 Mining Gloves out there and 3300 +3 Mining Gloves on the shard. If you don't want to farm golems for them, offer up some cash and I'm sure people will sell!
I've seen quite a few people in IRC trying to buy them. Perhaps they aren't offering enough, but I've also not seen any replies of "would sell mine for X amount"
I have only run numbers for smelting high level ore, and I know for sure they help there. As for actual mining, I do not have recorded numbers. As for buying them, I have been trying to buy a pair of +5s since I started here, to no avail, I have just been able to borrow someones once, and +3s were plentiful for a while, but I have lost several pairs to PKs, and have not been able to acquire more since, despite efforts. I have to wonder how many of those are just stashed away in chests in houses, and not looked upon for use or sale.... I will tell you the market to get them is horrid, from my experience. Weather its a quest, or allowing some of the lower end Lbods to get them as a rewards, I would love to see a way to obtain them, besides golem farming.... I had worn +3s while mining for a while, thinking it would help, but maybe thats not the case, but that is how I lost the few pairs I had... Maybe make it so you can use a CBD on them? As all my pairs are now in the hands of PKs, and IF I was able to obtain another pair, I would not wear them out of the house again, due to the risk of loosing them and the extreme difficulty to obtain a pair. I know this isn't the trade post forum, but if anyone is selling, I'm buying! PM me!
This change was due to the saturation of the world with those items, that never wore out, decayed or otherwise left the economy. With the popularity of the BOD system, and flipping activities these items were becoming all to common. The only change was that they were removed 1 step from their original location. So instead of mining gloves, players are given the consumable gargoyles shovels, which can summon golems that drop the gloves. As time passes the market for the gloves will resolve itself as players who have gloves, or want to farm them connect with buyers looking for them. And the gloves do help with the success rate while mining, however they do not let you mine ore any sooner than you would normally. So wearing a pair of gloves when mining valorite will reduce the chance you fail to dig up a good result from the vein, vs a failure. The different is not drastic, but over time it can be noticeable. That said, as these items balance out, I am not against providing some players an incentive to contribute to the economy by possibly adding a new type to the golems that adds +10 to mining. (Or some such)
I have been killing golems left and right and have yet to see mining gloves. I have used them in the past on another shard and know they are not just a myth What is the drop rate for them. Do I just have bad luck!?
