    Hello fellow Sorsarians and well met!

    Allow me to introduce myself. I am Taschen. I have a tale to tell of my adventures through the lands of Sosaria, and my desire to become a most famous Scribe there ever was and ever will be. Grab an ale and pull a chair up to the fire and as I recall the road I journeyed upon.

    I was born in the time of the Renaissance to very poor parents. I grew up learning to bind books and copy scrolls in the Lycaeum, situated North West of Moonglow. I often went to bed with a good book by my side, listening to the scratching sounds of the quills on parchment used by the other scribes that also made their homes amongst my own. Needless to say, mine was a very dismal existence. Other scribes shunned my family for our poverty. We dared not leave Verity Isle as we knew not what lied beyond its watery border.

    I found my only solace to be a fountain located on the front lawn of The Glowing Pitcher. Here, travelers would visit me with gold in exchange for the stories I told before entering the pub for a pint. Many mages and warriors became my companions. Through them, I learned to further my skill in inscription by trading goods and sharing stories of adventure and becoming friends with those who did not judge me based on my lack of wealth or knowledge. I worked hard and continued the path to become a Grandmaster Scribe. My first friend, a Sailor named Crotchety Guffer, became a comrade to hail when he made port. Another friend, an adventurer named Pyxis Circinus, insisted I visit the smaller Ocllo Isle, where I would be acquainted with many learning new skills.

    As I journeyed to Ocllo Isle in search of new faces, I often came across a ghost dressed in a gray hooded robe. I would often stop and try to speak to the individual. Alas, I could not understand his words. Speech seemed to function differently in his world. I consulted with a passerby named Lady Paradox, about these wandering souls. She informed me that these were the ghosts of the departed and to understand them, I would need to learn the art of Spirit Speak.

    I followed a ghost to the Healer of Ocllo and asked Altair the Healer Guildmaster to train me in the ways of the Medium. I thanked Altair and the ghost. Shortly after he came back to life, however, he ran for the door.

    The little bit of training I received from Altair cost me 283 gold pieces and I knew I had a lot of practice to do on my own. For many days and nights I sat outside the Healer of Ocllo trying to commune with any deceased I could see, and any that may not be visible to my untrained eye. Doing this, I learned a further 56% of what I needed to know about communing with the dead.

    I grew tired of the same marble bench and became discouraged. I set out to try in other parts of town when I met Dungeon Fairy. Still no dead where found; I explained my situation to him and he insisted on sending me to different parts of the world. I decided to travel from town to town in search of the dead. And with one swift "Vas Rel Por" uttered by Dungeon Fairy, a gate to Britain was opened. I thanked him and stepped through the portal.

    I wandered that very night, a staff in hand and robe on my back. I took nothing else. I walked around town for 2 days and 4 more to the big mountain to the west mumbling "Anh Mi Sah Ko" while sounding like a lunatic. Just as I was getting tired of stepping over dead branches and sticks, I reached 100% training in the skill of Spirit Speak.

    I was profoundly excited, as this was the first skill I was awarded the title of Grand Master. With 100% accuracy in speaking the words of the medium, I could let ghosts know I was listening. I headed back to the fountain in front of The Glowing Pitcher where I shared the story of my adventures in becoming a Grandmaster Medium to all those willing to listen. Many acted thankful and shared their death stories. However, many seem to just ignore my tales and carry on with their lives. For once in my humble life, I felt the need to exchange my story. And many where thankful for the conversation.

    The thrill of this revelation set my feet upon a new path, one that would give me greater joy and pleasure, where I become a Grandmaster Scribe and open the Shard’s first ever bookstore titled, "Balrons & Noble". There I serve all Sosarians as Renaissance Publisher & Archivist.

    I hope this story has inspired you to create some of your own. I am always looking to publish new material for the opening of Balrons & Noble.

    Excellent story! I have some books i could donate, I collect all player written stuff that I find. Currently, if you have a book and it's locked down, no one can read it... however if you place it behind a table or something, and have it just sitting there, it can be read by anyone but not written in :)

    @PaddyOBrien excellent and thank you.

    I'm really looking forward to the development of a way to lock text into a book. There are discussion threads of this idea, such as using beeswax to "seal" a book rendering it un-editable. In the mean time, I'll work on a way to decorate the house using your table placement method. It seems like the best option to preserve the books and their contents.

    You're welcome! Unfortunately the text locking into a book fix is probably a pretty low priority on the big to do list and won't happen anytime soon, but the workaround should be fine until then. Initially, you might have to lock down the book and raise or lower it to the right level where it can be read behind the counter and not editable. Definitely works with tables or counters, i've not tried it with footstools or anything else that block movement yet. Good luck and let us know when it's ready!
