...especially to those who already have blacksmithing. Blacksmithing is not divided into weaponsmiths and armorsmiths, so why have separate skills of bowcraft and carpentry. I propose that bowcrafting be incorporated into the carpentry menu and the skill of bowcrafting be banished forever. This is my pure crafter template btw: It would be great to squeeze in gm arms lore here instead of bowcrafting. 100 skill points is a lot to commit to just 3 types of bows. People don't even really buy gm made bows. Just sayin
I believe the two skills are in the core mechanics of the game, so might be impossible to re-code. Fletching carpentry, lumber-jacking have always been individual skills. Knows this because I've played UO since about a month after the original Beta testing, way, way, way back when. You might consider giving a different character some of the crafting skills. Remember, we have muliple accounts here, so have tons of character slots. Thanks for posting this thread, always nice to hear new ideas.
Wow, I didn't know they did it for OSI. Good on them. I hope it gets done here too. Looking at runescape, I see they have a fletching skill as well, but theirs is kinda necessary. They added tons of gear under that skill tree, from onyx-tipped runite bolts, yew shieldbows, to a bazillion other things. In this game, we're only talking about two ammunitions and 3 ranged weapons. Such a meager amount really doesn't need its own skill.
I cant find an exact timeframe/publish but it appears runic bows came out when you carpentry runic tools (dovetail saws) http://www.uoguide.com/Runic_Tools Since backsmith, masory, & tailoring are there... I like really this idea
or what if we have it so carpentry makes the bow. but then you need to use tailoring to fashion the string. and finally use bowcrafting to attach the string to the bow? all three steps must be done BY the character using the bow or it will randomly blow up in your hands when you try to shoot it. think similarly to attacking an orc while wearing a kin mask. I think this content will finally be a step in the right direction...
I was under the impression that originally, carpenters could make bows and arrows. Around Pub16 or so is when I remember first seeing fletching tools, because I thought they were rare, and those brought in the introduction of Bowcraft/Fletching, perhaps to introduce runic bows along with runic smith hammers and sewing kits. If I'm totally wrong, sorry, but I thought that's how it was. --- Disregard, totally wrong on all accounts, but I do agree bowcraft/fletching being useless. There's Juka Bows to unlock, orcish bows? or something? And 3 GM weapons that nobody uses. Maybe if there was runic fletchers tools.. But then you'd have to do something regarding the underpowered archery skill here.
runic fletching started in ML. carpentry was never combined with bowcraft/fletching on EA, still to this day. and some of the described systems in this thread of bowcraft/fletching combined into carpentry has been done on other free shards in the past.. one in particular that has been around for many years.
