*This is a system that was used on another shard and helped new players*

Companion system that will be very helpful for assisting new players to get started (and will be a lot of fun for the companions). Companions will be regular players and can therefore hunt with / accompany a young player on their new adventures. Companions, however, will receive the following powers:

[*] They will receive an overhead message whenever a Young player logs in
[*] They will gain access to the "[young" command which gives a list of all young players currently online and when they were last helped by a companion. When they select a young player from the list, it teleports the companion to the young player if: (1) the young is not alive and is not in a house or boat or (2) the young player has not already been helped by a companion in the last minute (this delay does not exist if the young player is dead).
[*] When a young player dies, all online companions will receive a message letting them know (so they can potentially teleport in and help them)
[*]When a young player is murdered, all online companions will receive a message letting them know who murdered them. They can teleport to them as well in order to avenge them and/or res them.

    FAQ:
    Q. What if a companion is led into a trap by a "fake" young player.
    A. This is a risk that the companion must assume, though they will be able to see the Region name that they are teleporting into such that they could precast recall or something. Staff will likely not interfere unless other shard rules were broken.

    Q. Can't a companion use a young player to get into places they shouldn't?
    A. It's not possible to port into houses or boats. However, there is a possibility of a ghost getting places that a normal player shouldn't be able to. Every time a companion ports to a new player, the location and region are logged and will be reviewed. If any funny business is suspected, the companion and all their associated accounts will be banned. Companions are expected to uphold a higher standard than regular players.

    Q. What if a companion is being an idiot?
    A. Companion and nearby player speech is logged. If you see a companion acting inappropriately, please page in and report it. We can investigate it and deal with it accordingly.

    Q. What do I get for being a good companion?
    A. For your hard work, we are will be rewarding:
*You get the opportunity to hunt with / show new players around / rescue them when they died (which can be very rewarding).
    B. Other rewards determined by the staff

    • Our counselor system currently keeps our counselors informed of new players along with a method to greet them.
    • Teleporting to a player is only allowed in very specific situations.
    • Young players who die are automatically taken to the healers hut in Ocllo so they can understand the healing services provided there. An information gump is provided as well.
    • Young players should not be able to be murdered, this is a bug in RunUO that where you got this guide from, they did not fix.

Renaissance Counselors are provided an account for this purpose, and are not allowed to interact with the world in a physical manner. Existing players should never be provided with a tool to magically teleport around outside the world mechanics. This would be rife with abuse. About to die in a pvp/pvm situation? Better magically teleport to that new player.

An efficient server needs to operate with as little staff involvement as possible. Creating a system that forces you to devote administrative resources to the monitoring of those players in the program defeats the purpose of said program. All it takes is a few corrupt players to damage the servers reputation. Also asking someone to volunteer and then threatening them with banning for a fuzzy rule seems like a terrible way to repay a volunteer. Would be pretty easy to grief a companion in this system if you summoned them at a house decay, and then accused them of tracking you there.

These "logs" are cleared by logging out, not an effective mechanism of policing conduct.

Renaissance counselors donate their time to make sure every new player is aware that we are available to assist them with questions, providing information and pointing them to helpful resources. Members of our counselor program do this to make Renaissance a great place to play, not because of a promise of rewards.
