    You can open that door and stand in the threshold, just 1 tile before dropping, and provoke everything on the 2nd floor. You can also pull bars for everything on the bottom floor so that when you drop you can either start provoking or run up to the (now safe) 2nd floor and provoke the mobs that follow you up stairs.
