I don't know if it's normal and it doesn't really matter I guess but if you're fighting a faction mob and you flag gray while you're fighting them, when you turn blue and they continue to attack, they flag gray and are no longer orange (enemy) hued. I honestly can't recall if I still got the silver or not but I probably did.
