Okay, SO some of you have heard me talk about a Flea Market event I used to host on the old Atlantic Shard of OSI. I wanted to see if this was something viable to do here on UO:R. Here is the concept - Many of our mates accumulate items that they would like to sell, but they don't set up a vendor for several reasons ranging from: Not enough Merchandise to keep a vendor stocked at all times. Not Enough time to service and maintain a vendor Have limited play time, and prefer to use it hunting instead of setting up vendors. Don't understand how to properly run a vendor. Not sure of an items Value High Value items cost a lot to market using a vendor Slow or Low traffic at vendor location This concept helps solve most of those issues: Sell as few or as many items as you wish during the Flea Market. Flea Market generally last around 2-hours, no need for long term vendor management. Sell of your treasures in a 2 hour window, allowing more time to hunt. Since your selling in a group, items are more likely to be accurately appraised for value. No large commissions to NPC vendors for high value items, as items are only on a vendor for less than a minute. Higher traffic, as this would be a limited time event, which would be advertised on the UO:R website, in the UO:R IRC Channel, as well as Gate-Bots in populated towns. Here is how it works: Each member is given a space (See Pic) where they are locked in. They will put their items neatly inside chest, for viewing by the shoppers (don't worry, they cant remove them, only browse). Seller stands on the Red "X" their Vendor is placed on the red "DOT". The areas on the ends (Blue Circles) are Bestiaries used for those who wish to sell Tames or Zookeeper animals. Security would be maintained by "Detect-Bots" which will macro detect and "Ban-Bots" who would ban any Red or Gray. While not fool-proof, this will help cut down on griefers. Additionally having several Advanced Characters as Sellers and Blue Shoppers should add additional deterrent. The house has been set-up. If this is something we would like to try, let me know, and we can begin selecting a date, and making additional preparations. I feel this concept is a great way to add an "old world" marketplace feel back into the game. Perhaps we can call it the "Renaissance Bazaar" Your thoughts?
Sellers could be killed from outside the tower. Good idea though. Maybe utilize all levels of the tower?
I have already looked at making additional booths through all levels of the tower. This would depend on interest, and obviously amount of participation.
"Each member is given a space (See Pic) where they are locked in. They will put their items neatly inside chest, for viewing by the shoppers (don't worry, they cant remove them, only browse)." Put something in one of those chests, add that item to a restock profile. Restock from that chest.
Tested It's been tested. Items are safe. Tables are raised a click, which allows viewing, but prevents taking or moving items inside chest. Browse only. Sellers would be locked inside prior to house opening to public. Once all are in place, house would be opened (or unlocked).
I would partake in this if there is enough interest, both as a seller and a buyer. I always enjoyed Auction nights on Atlantic. Community non-PvP events are my cup of tea
They are leggings made of horned leather. Would you like to buy that outfit? I have several. This outfit was my former one: While the former comes with a bone helmet, this one comes with a shiny golden closed helmet -- useful in the presence of jealous types, you see. I'll likely be selling these two at the flea market, as well as others (if the community signs on and make it happen).
Cool idea but I think it’s too griefable. A few examples off the top of my head include: - Instant banning a thief only gives him a head start, outside the house. - Instant ban wouldn’t stop a well synchronized mana dump either. - Selling tames could easily lead to phony tames being set up to sneak attack prized animals or players. - Many more I’m sure...
Nothing in this game seems to be Grief Proof, but my hope is, that since this would only be a couple hours long, the volume of people would help deter the worst of it. I also plan several more tests before I would roll the final plan. Thanks for the input though, because it helps better plan contingencies.
I think this would be a great idea to interact with other members of the community. But I wouldn't use the macros, we could utilize an event like this to have people with characters that use forensics to screen people at the door, or walk among shoppers keeping them safe. Keep the doors locked and use guardsmen to allow people through, have someone snoop packs etc. Have a group of anti-pks at the front of the tower defending etc. Events like these can bring together many people of different play styles I'd also move this to the discussion forum, this could get buried under "for sale" posts
It's kinda sad to acknowledge that the negative aspects of the attitude, "I can do it, so I will do it," are so pervasive that they're overriding its positive aspects (a community event). Someone took hella initiative to make this work, but fear of getting griefed (FOGG?) is so intense -- and, sadly, well-founded -- that it's legit looking like it'll kill this event in its nascency. Here's a wild one: maybe people can just agree to, I don't know, respect the event space and its peers? Maybe we can have a market day that doesn't result in bloodshed and carnage. o_o
Doing pop up vendors and announcing in irc has worked very well for me. I only keep them up for an hour or so and make a lot of gold. The screen shot below was after about a hour and half. I think this is a great idea.
I have pretty much decided that I WILL move forward with the event, with the obvious disclaimer that I can't guarantee safety. I as we do it once, if all goes well, we repeat. If not, at least we tried. I have a very busy weekend coming up, but Could possible host the event the following weekend of March 10th. I can also open lower levels if we have more participation than expected. I would need t start with an RSVP list. of sellers who plan to attend, and what type wares they intend to sell. from there we can tell what space requirements will be needed. Thank you all for your input. I will kick off a thread in a couple days to begin prep.
