Threw a net and pulled up a kraken, but when I told a daemon to guard me, a guard came and whacked the kraken! This was east of Vesper.
The Guard Zone has extended out into the sea a bit going back as long as I can remember playing this game. You'll have to sail a bit further out to sea until you see the message that you are no longer in the guard zone....and then sail another 25 or so tiles to be safe.
