This is a rather simple guide on how to avoid home invasions from thieves or PK's. If you're reading this guide you should already be familiar with previous home guides and how housing works on Renaissance:

    Additional Housing Guides:
Housing 101 - Entrance Security - Tips and Tricks
Housing 102 - Protecting Your Valuables
Housing 103 - Intro to House Ownership & Commands
Housing 104 - The Renaissance Land Rush System

Depending on the type of home you have chosen the type of security in place against home invasion will vary. Regardless, a simple 'I Ban Thee' or 'Remove Thyself' will more than likely always suffice. Doing so will permanently or temporarily, respectively, remove an unwanted from your house. Keep in mind that your ban list has a limit of 50. Banning a player will flag that account and no other characters from that account may ever enter so long as they remain on the ban list; keep in mind this doesn't apply to shared accounts by the same player. Remember that if a player is even on your steps you can ban them. All non-friended players will be flagged Criminal if inside your private home and eligible for attack without murderer repercussions. This is something to keep in mind if you happen to be admiring someone else home, either from the steps or inside.

    If your house is public:
Options are limited with what you can do to physically prevent entry other than the previous commands. However, depending on the style and layout of your house even a public house can still serve as somewhat of a refuge from immediate attacks. They key is to be creative with your walls, perhaps allow some room to run in your house before getting to your wall.:

    If your house is private:
You have many options with a private house including but not limited to locking exterior and interior doors. Never keep your house key on your characters. Remember, being creative with your trash barrel walls is key and a properly placed wall will save you if unwanted players are in your home.

    The Courtyard:
If you are fortunate enough to own a home that allows you to recall within it's structure then there are a few things you must keep in mind! Depending on the area that you place this house you may get some nasty critters that will spawn in the courtyard (ice isle elementals!). If you recall a weak mule into the courtyard you may find yourself dead to spawn. You can mark runes and recall into the courtyard of your home, but so can other players! With that said it would be wise to treat a courtyard rune as a house key and leave it in your bank at all times! Otherwise:

    The Exterior House PK:
More often than not this will happen when unattended in the home. A PK can EQ outside the house, EQ cannot directly kill you, however, if you're training and something else damages you, well, you're dead. Currently Meteor Swarm and Chain Lighting through walls only do 1 dmg but I believe explosion pots still are in full effect. The key is to stand at least 3 tiles away from exterior walls. Remember, if you're sparring or resist training, well, EQ will indirectly kill you so don't do these unattended in the home.

    In Conclusion:
Remember kiddos! House security only matters when you lose your valuable pixels so don't take house security lightly. Double check access on all secure containers, don't keep keys/runes on you, DETECT HIDDEN!, wipe your friends list weekly, and keep a tactical trash barrel wall.
