How exactly do you build floating platforms/new floors in a house? After seeing these around, I got a really great idea that might work in the new Library, but not sure how to go about setting it up. Can anyone explain it to me? What do I need to get? :)

Use a ladder, drop the table with runner piece at the top and lock it down, axe ladder and move it over one space and repeat.

That's the hard way. You set your ladder so you know the spot it takes up.

Take 6 table runners, stack them one on top of the other, lock the top one down, pick up the rest, move one tile and repeat..

I use a macro that drops a table runner at rel location 0,0

When doing more than one story, target your previous ladder to go up higher

Hey, I have tons of them on a vendor, can stock plenty more. Tell me how many you need and I will put them out

Step one, disconnect your mouse from your computer after closing clients. Step two, turn off your display. Step three, wait three weeks to undo those changes and log back in.

Thank you guys for the info! Landarr, I sent you a PM in IRC :)

@Blaise - Hah, normally I am very much with you in regards to that, but if my idea works the way I have it in my mind, then you might actually like what I am going to set up (maybe!) :)

I'm personally not opposed to "raising the roof", so long as it's done within the bounds of the normal visual space taken by the home. When it starts branching out beyond that, my stomach turns and I want to shake my fist at the gods and log off.

So, I noticed in the fortress that the 2nd floor main area is double high, but you can't naturally do anything with that space through normal means. My plan is to make a 2-tile wide rim around the north and west edges of the that room with ladders going up to them for that old classic library look (with additional bookshelves on them, of course). If it works like I see it in my mind, I think it will be really nice!

Go for it. The only way to see change in this mechanic is for people to go too far, too much with it. So by all means, make it happen so somewhere 10 years from now when the really egregious ones have IDOCed, the shard can start looking normal again.

I'm also available to help Alex, if Landarr isn't on at the same time. I've thought about doing this before, so it would be nice to see it.

i don't like the elevated extra floors, but a middle floor in a fortress ex. Boothby and alex's idea for high shelves mimicking libraries with rolling ladders are both excellent uses of the mechanic

That is mainly what I had in mind with the extra floors in the fortress. A big thank you to you guys for the help/advice. Another big thank you to @LanDarr for hooking me up with more table pieces, and @SteelyDan and @Zyler for the sandstone pieces!

    It looks really great Alex.

Also, I derive great pleasure from being able to stock my keep's study with "REAL UO BOOKS"! Thanks so much.

My copy of "The UO Anachist's Cookbook" (Self written, of course) isn't so lonely anymore.

Here is one last picture, taken during the day time. I swapped out the chests that were "supporting" the north loft with wooden shelves. I think it looks a lot nicer.

Nice job man! Looks really good, not what I pictured a table floor would be. Yours is actually sane and contains 0 cringe. I knew you had it in you and I didn't expect to see what I normally think of when it comes to oak slab custom house add ons.
