This is how you change the game sounds if you ever feel the need to for any reason. Download this program and install it. Go to the "Sounds" tab. Find the sound you wish to replace. In the "Add/Replace" section the ID is the number counting down from the top of the list. For the sound to replace the one you want and play when the game would have used the original you need to type the exact name, in this example "anvil.wav" Press the button to the right of the "Wav" section and select the .wav file you wish to replace the original with, this can be ANY name, it doesn't have to match. Then press the "Add/Replace" button, seemingly nothing will happen if you've done it right. To complete the process, press the "Save" button which will reveal the new modified files location on your hard drive. Open the location of your UO folder and the place that UOFiddler put the modified files. Copy the files over, its probably a good idea to make a backup somewhere of the files you will be overwriting. Ensure that UO isn't open during this process or it will get denied. Hope that helps someone. I have to turn off the sounds and music or I will get crashes, I'm not sure why, I used to have the same problem on a dif computer on sa as well.
I'm assume you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling? Pretty sure a corrupt or wrong version of the games sound files would cause that (either one of the supporting files or the .mul that contains the sound), I can upload my backup of the sound files as I know they definitely work for you to try. That's horrible, I couldn't play the game without sounds, it'd drive me mad.
