In order to help our players determine if connections problems and latency are local, route or host based I have uploaded the UO Trace Utility to our website and worked with our host to temporarily enable pinging of host network.

In order to run a connection test you need to do the following.

    Step 1
    Download the UO Trace Program
    UO Trace Utility

    Step 2
Run the program and enter in this IP address. 184.176.5.200
    [IMG]

    Step 3
Enable advanced mode and perform a traceroute to the server.

    Step 4
Under Options > Settings change the following settings to match this picture. This will help reduce packet loss due to ISP DDOS protection
    [IMG]

    Step 5
Turn on polling mode for a while and watch the results. Look for things like packet loss and high latency on the patch from your connection to the game server.
Note!: Some ISP throttle pings and will result in packet loss on all hops during the polling process.

    Step 6
Take a screenshot and post it here for the staff to review, along with some rough geo location information to assist us in researching any issues.

Note: To easily take a screenshot hold down the Alt key on your keyboard and hit the printscreen button. Open Microsoft Paint, and hit the paste button in the upper left. This should paste in your UO trace window. Save this image and attach it to your post.

I started having problems with a bad connection maybe a little over a week ago. Prior to that I had no complaints or noticeable lag to speak of. It's very choppy for me and nearly impossible to play. Please help :)

    Location: Kingsport, Tennessee
    ISP: Charter Communications, 30Mbps plan

I know you didn't ask for this info, but I checked my connection on speedtest.net simultaneously to a server 2 hours from my location (Morristown, TN) with these results:

    ping 23ms
    d/l speed 45.57Mbps
    u/l speed 4.16 Mbps

You might try your tests again. In order to troubleshoot some issues with our host the firewall was disallowing ping replays.

Also our host was having some issues with the upload provisioning on their fiber channels resulting in some dial up quality upload speeds on an off over the last two weeks. They have almost resolved the problem but if it pops up it could be related to that.
