If you make sandals out of spined, barbed, or horned leather, then cut them apart, you get a pile of leather that's the regular leather hue, but is called whatever type of leather you made it from. Look at the pic below.
Someone told me that this was known to happen for a short time before Telamon fixed it. This is why I was surprised when it happened.
