Looking at playing uo again and looking for a good populated / friendly server . I use to love playing a thief, is that allowed on this server and if so what would be a good starting template you would suggest to start with? Also how does the skill gain system work, if I remember correctly working stealing was a slow process in the old days. Thanks in advance . South
Skills are really easy these days to work up using razor This is a great server, you fell into great company. Welcome
Hey Southpaw, You certainly found the right place! This server has an active and helpful population of players, and thievery is most certainly allowed here. There are a few caveats here that may separate us from other servers with respect to Stealing, which you can read about in numerous other threads on these forums. However, there are plenty of thieves here that thrive. As far as templates - there are lots of different ways to go depending on what you want to do. Typical town thief slinking around banks, dungeon thieves, disarm thieves, house looters, etc. I don't really play my thief too much, but this is what I use : Hiding Stealth Snooping Stealing Magery Meditation Wrestling This gives me a decent amount of flexibility to go stealing in dungeons and have enough survivability to take something and get away. There are tons of different ways to play a thief here though, and several different builds depending on what exactly you want to accomplish. Skill gain here is really easy - as the only thing you're not allowed to macro are resource gathering skills. You can AFK macro stealing all the way to GM in a day or 2. There are several guides that can be found in the Guides section of the forums for tips and tricks for macroing pretty much every skill in the game! I definitely recommend checking out the Guides forums, as there are a bunch of really awesome players here who have dedicated a lot of time towards putting great detail out for us all! Welcome to the server, and please remember that I was being helpful after you've joined the thieves guild
After reading around in here a little bit, seems to be for my first character on this server for getting a good start would be a Provo Mage, is that the best start off build for making some gold? Thanks again South
The best way to start is indeed a Provo Mage. I strongly suggest starting with 50/50 Magery/Provocation. Once in game, join the Young program and work on GMing both Music and Provocation. See my guide for Provocation, it is in my signature below. Once both are GM, you can easily use that character to farm some starting money using blade spirits. Then as you go, macro up Magery. Best thing to do right off is to join our IRC channel. The address is: irc.chat4all.org Port: 6667 Channel: #Renaissance EDIT: Once you're ready to start farming, lots of people in IRC could help with getting you a blade spirit scroll for your spell book.

Since your Thievery questions were answered, I found that a Peace Dexxer was the easiest toon to roll out with first. With Provo you’ll need to get access to the Provo house on Occlo island, which may have someone in it already. With Peacemaking, you can GM that and music in a day. I did just that and started making decent money. (I killed evil mages, they drop decent loot, regs, Magic weps, treasure maps etc)
Yep, Peace Dexxers are another viable way to start earning gold. Only thing is, you will need a place / way to spar two characters so your combat skills are GM. You can always utilize @ReZon's new player housing here to do this. But to spar, you will need to temporarily leave the young program but fear not, you can always rejoin. If you choose this route, I recommend starting with 50/50 Magery/Healing. I say this because having 50 magery will let you recall to hunting spots right away and healing makes sparing less dangerous early on.
Honestly, I just GMed Peace/Music and went out lol. Healing was an issue, but I never got hit. I made enough GP and bought a small house deed, and roamed a bit to find a house placement. @Southpaw if you need a house, I got you!
My first character here was a Peace Dexxer, and I honestly just macroed music / peacemaking in town and then leveled my combat skills naturally in the newbie dungeon. It went up fast enough that I was able to make decent cash while building out my character with no actual investment. Not to mention it was certainly more fun to be able to jump right into playing the game without having to wait through multiple days of macroing before being able to do anything.
When first running out to do some hunting, hire a NPC fighter or paladin. Let them do the attacking first and heal them. Faster heals that way.
I did this too. I raised music and peace, then went into occlo dungeon with skinning knives and just beat on the ogres for as long as i could until my weapon skills were high enough to move on. I wasn't on irc at the time and missed the new player housing on the forums. After collecting enough cotton, i purchased a horse since their damage was minimal and a newbie healer could keep up with macroing. Then i brought my horse to a less popular end of Occlo and raised my healing that way. Not as safe as new player housing, but got the job done all the same. My first goal as a peace dexxer was to get my hands on a silver weapon. Liches have always been a great first step up due to being squishy, easy to peace, and good loot for a newb.
Thank you all for all the great information. I very well may do this build, sounds like all great ideas and advise . Thank you all , South
