    Hey guys,

i am thinking about creating a lottery system to create some money for events.
What is your take on it?

    Very few BIG prices?
    vs
    Many MEDIUM prices?
    vs
    A lot of SMALLER prices?

Also... Tickets that will return 50% of the bet?
How big would your winning margin be?
What is a good amount of gold per ticket, how many tickets in total?

    Discuss!

My first version (just to give you an example)

50 Tickets @5k per ticket = Total of 250k worth tickets
Total worth of 200k in prices (= 50k for the eventbank for future events)

10 Crates = Better luck next time!
    14 Crates = 50% of the ticket price (35k)
    15 Crates = 100% of the ticket price (75k)
    10 Crates = 150 % of the ticket price (75k)
    1 Crate = Main Price! (~30 - 50k)

Those are just some numbers to give you guys something to work with.
I would put that under the category: "A lot of smaller prices"

I've thought about creating a weekly lottery system, that worked almost identical to Powerball and such.
I know HOW I want to do it. I just don't know how I can do it and show 100% legitimacy.
If IRC had a /random feature I would do the numbers through there, so all could see.

My other option was dumping all the numbers into a container (marked rune or book) and using razor to randomly restock 1 at a time, like pulling balls from the machine.
But this is where I cannot prove I am not just pulling out numbers based one what people submit.

I already had a payment method and number submission planned that would be convenient to all time zones and keep a spread sheet on that weeks numbers.

This can work. Its just getting people to buy into it and trust it.

    If there's anything I think UO:R needs, it's consistency.

I think the most simple solution would be to make a "crate lotto"

locked crates with prices in them, put them on a vendor.
DONT REFRESH the vendor with new crates, until the round is over.
Crates can be unlocked via spell once the player buys them.

Make a full report of earnings, winning margins + tell people how you would use money (in my case i would try to create money fur future shard events, sort of like donations)

    For sure most simple.
With good vendor placement and advertising could work out fairly well.

    Hmmmm......

Pick 6, or Pick 8....something like that.

    For pick 6, players pay for a lotto ticket, pick 6 numbers (each 1-6). Examble : 2, 5, 6, 1, 4, 4.

Players turn in their tickets to you, maybe keep it legit by having them take a screenshot of their book "ticket" and post it in a thread. Then you quote that thread to seal the deal so they can't go in and edit it.

Then on the drawing day, you roll the dice 3 times. 4 times for pick 8. Have some sort of prize rankings.... pick all numbers, some big prize. pick 7 right, 6 right, etc...

maybe guessing 2 or 3 numbers wins smaller prizes.

Another idea would be to sell premade tickets with a string of numbers. Put those in a spreadsheet along with a 1 - Xnumber beside it. When all tickets are sold, have the drawing via a random number generator, the corresponding ticket wins. Make people post their tickets they purchased in the forums, quote to seal the deal so no shenanigans.

    I really like

The main prize should be larger

    "1 Crate = Main Price! (~30 - 50k)"

30-50 is less than the others unless you meant 300-500k?

    my thoughts:

    250k raising through sales
    125k in prizes

    1 25k check
    4 10k checks
    12 5k checks

overall odds of winning 1:3.25 something like that
main prize of course is 1 in 50
    10k prizes are 1:12.5

and the last is around 1:4 chance to win

    Rough math with 50/50 split

up it to 60% (prize pool 150k) and then it changes to
    1 25k check
    5 10k checks
    15 5k checks

    brings overall odds to 1:2.something
    1:50 for the 50k check
    1:10 for the 10k checks
    1:3.33 for the 5k checks

    again rough math
