Mage or Melee?

    What do you think is better (and i am sure it is up for a long debate...) mage or melee for pvp?

    i think most people run mage, but there's something to be said for a lumberjacking axer. Could maybe mix in poisoning to add some nastiness to it.

    Also I think most people are accustomed to fighting mages so they may be taken off guard when they have an axe in their face.

    still love eval fencer mages even though they aren't the most efficient/common. Still a blast!

    With very little dissent it is agreed that stun mages (and/or tamers) are better for open world PvP here, generally speaking.

    Some people may have a special inclination towards playing lumberjacks or tank mages (which usually use fencing here for paralysis, and are after all still as much mages as they are dexxers), especially in group PvP where the element of surprise may have some value. But the degree to which mages outnumber dexxers in all (non-instanced) PvP pursuits implies that they're either just plain better, much easier to play for the vast majority of people, or that dexxers aren't worth playing without fielding weapons worth over multiple hundreds of thousands of or even over a million gp.

    If Verite or Valorite runics were financially viable for open world use, or if there were no AR bonus for specialty leather, then this might be a different story.

    If you get in faction you can get your dexxer weapon blessed for two weeks - which makes the LJ more viable to play as at least you won’t lose so much when you die.

    Also if you have a good ping you can pull off fighting with a dexxer, with a bad ping (like me) you ll just run after shadows. lj is decent 1v1 for ppl who know how to use them but for big field fights with loads of ppl stun is just really useful (50% chance with wrestling & 20% with fencing)

    I built a lumberjack but it seemed more suited to a support role in open field / part of a gank squad. Mostly due to swing timer. That hit chance... miss and waaaiiit. Miss again and awwww I'm in trouble.

    Is there a method/tactic that I overlooked regarding this?
    My fencer mage seems far more viable, now with some vpn voodoo it looks like I may be able to particiate! :eek: I'm gonna get so melted :D
