    Allo!

First I want to say hi to everyone , im new to the shard and really happy to join the crew!Im not so much experienced with UOR but I love it alot.

This is gunna be my first and main character on the server.I will go for a LJ Dexer.Since im new and broke I need an easy to maintain build for all around.I like the fact that as I make this character I will be able to gain money from LJ.With that money I will finance the nightmare that is magery/resisting spell.
So down to business...After reading guides and other info I went up with a concept for my first LJ character. Here it is :

    Skills:
-Magery ( magery so good cant live with out it )
-Resisting Spell ( hey its a PvP build right ?)
    -Healing ( for defence )
-Anatomy ( Backing up my DPS and my Healing)
    -Swordmanship ( For Offence )
-Lumberjacking ( Offence and money making )
-Tactics ( I like the Big Numbers)

    Stats:
-Str :90 ( Need to cut it a litle for Int)
-Dex : 95 ( Need to heal and Swing Fast )
-Int : 40 ( Mind blast wont hurt me too much and will be able to cast more often)

    So the tactic :

I will go in full plate so other Dexer wont scare me too much.Fencer with theyre lower hit will barely scratch me.Mage will fear my mana burning attack and my big hits. With Mage + Healing + Resisting Spell I should be able to hold my ground.I will carry Poison Katana and Axes for only source of DMG.From what I recall LJer can pull out some insane DPS.

My main weakness Is probably my lack of Range/Finishing move.Since I cant Range DPS or Para blow its gunna be hard to finish off my opponents. The Fact that I will use Full plate might be hard too.Cant Med and my Dex will go down alot but I think it worth it.

So I ask you , you Vets and Great PKs , will this build work in this shard ?

I appreciate for taking your time to help me out.

    A plus !

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but you need magery and resist to be competitive. And LJ is just not that effective in field fights. It will be fine for CTF if you want to do that.

If you really want to do real pvp my best suggestion is you save up and train a mage. You might get by as a fencer with magery on the side for defensive/utility purposes, but you still need it.

This is just a no BS response. There will be no shortage of people that will tell you that LJers are awesome or some whacky template rocks. But this is not evidenced historically.

Welcome to UOR, I hope you have a good time.

Mes , I think you read my build wrong , I do have magery and Resist in it.

When you say Train a you mean like stun/tank/ what ever mage , right ?

Maybe I did, I thought you meant you were going to pvp on an LJ without resist or magery. Even with those, LJ is going to continue to have problems finishing the job.

And yeah, the meta seems to be stun+scribe mage (magery/med/eval/anat/wrestling/stun/scribe)

If you're intent on swinging a weapon I'd say your best bet is the fencer tank (fence, tact, anat, resist, mage, med, eval). But Mes is right, stun mages are the best template here by far for pvp, most of which being either scribe/stun or heal/stun. At any rate, welcome to UOR, I hope to see you on the field when you're ready

Hey Frank. I'm new on this shard myself but used to play this era back in the day.

I would say it's a good all round template for starting out. You'll sell them boards np and make a nice bit of gold. You can also mix it up with PVM and PVP. Although I would ask why do you need gm magery in the long run? It's perfect to start out with as you need to recall etc but eventually you will get a mage that can gate your Axer about. For most of the time it's a redundant skill on this template and with plate ar and 0 med you won't have the mana to do anything and with 0 wrestle you may not even be able to cast against a dexxer with your mostly redundant skill. To solve the killing blow problem just get some wands or maybe even try archery as a back up instead of magery.

I haven't had much experience here in the field yet but I've done some CTF's on my stun/heal mage and haven't died yet. And in the CTF the dexxers bring out their big guns...+25 Vanq axes and they do hit big but Magery well it's Magic isn't it!

Ps In short stick with your template but build a stun/heal mage when you can afford the regs. Or a scribe mage when you can afford even more regs! :)

There is no template here that is safe without magic imho, it's for healing, not for getting around. If a mage drops on you and all you have is bandages to rely on, you'll be dear waiting for that 11 seconds to pass even with a heal potion. This is all not to mention spell reflection and reactive armor, which are both crucial spells for pvp as well as pvm.

I see your point mate. I'm not 100% sure about the game mechanics here so do you know how long it takes to regen mana with full plate and 0 med? I'm thinking too long. And any mage worth his salt will see that last ditch In Vas Mani and try to disrupt it. Also I'm not sure how effective defensive spells like reflect here are without eval int.

Also if he's going to gm mage then it's probably best to do it early and make use of med before gming the easy peasy dex skills.

It's all a matter of choice, what you're used to etc etc. If it works for you then it's all good.

Well eval is only calculated on offensive spells, bone armor is 50% med rate and has about 4ar less than plate with 0 dex loss so I'd ditch the plate, and regardless of what you're used to, there is no one putting up a fight against any competent pvper here without magery, not even close. and on that same topic, what would you replace that skill with if not using magery, I'm just curious

    hi and welcome to UOR...

First off, I'm not a pvper; so can't address those issues.
Did want to mention, keep your eyes open.. Players here hold what is called a "Resist Party", everyone welcome. What it is, the guild/players who host the party cast high level spells on a group of folks.. These parties usually last a few days. So can afk your character at the resist party, while playing a character on a different account. Most people are able to gm resist or come fairly close at these parties.

The parties are held about every two to three months... so go ahead and work resist, good idea to have at least 45 resist before entering the party, since high level spells are used

Also wanted to mention, do not carry runebooks in your inventory, they are not blessed here and can be taken. You cannot buy a boat from the shipwright here as they are a craft item. Can buy the boat plan from shipwright, and the boat from either player vendor or via asking in irc.

glad to have you here, enjoy UOR, our staff has worked hard to make it fun for all play styles

My LJ is one of my favorite templates. It is effective in PvM and PvP, but ill advised if you are fighting more than one person (eval mage) alone. Eval Mages can sync spell dumps and screw your couch in one drop, if they do it right. In order to survive that you will need not only Healing, Magery and Greater Heal potions, but also a Greater Heal wand set on macro that you can equip and be ready to apply as the damage rolls in. This is no easy task and takes a lot of practice to get the timing right.

Personally, I will run around solo on this guy:
    http://www.uorenaissance.com/player/41980
However, I will generally not stick around if a group comes at me. It's just asking to get dumped and looted of all your fine weaponry. My rule of thumb, when rolling with a group, is that I will roll an Eval Mage (I have a few) unless we have more than 2-3 in the group. For example, if three of us are on mages, having that LJ hit (with Concussion Blows) to mix things up, is a nice addition to the team.
You'll notice on my build that I have 30 Poisoning. This used to be 30 Tracking but I've opted to do more 1v1 tourneys with him and having the ability to apply lesser poison to my one-hander (katana) mid-fight, is highly useful. While there's no damage ticks like DP, it still disrupts heals which can mean the difference between life and death. You will absolutely need to use purple potions (no one stands around waiting for the death blow from your axe, so get ready to chase and chuck pots) to be ultimately effective.

Stun/Heal/Scribe Mages are the most common template because they are easy to build, compared to dexxers take practically nothing to equip (leathers/reagents/pots + wands if you really want) and ultimately the easiest to get kills with in a group. You can easily fund one of these templates by working that LJ and farming with it as well. You can chop down liches with a low end silver axe and make quick cash. Just be ready to Recall quickly (escape macro, set to hotkey) if more than one red shows up.

Hi Frank, Welcome to UO:R. Glad to have you aboard. :)
It seems that you've already gotten some sage advice form many of the vets here.... I think you'll find plenty to love about the shard... Making the Char template is just the first step...

Don't forget, when you get a chance, There are a few things you will want to do. The first is to register your account ingame. Type [register and a menu will come up.

Secondly, be sure to check out our IRC channels and our Compendium that can be accessed off our main webpage, http://www.uorenaissance.com

    Have fun!
