If you check the link, you will actually see it's an almost 4yr plea.

So we have roughly double the provokers than we have thieves or trackers. You could add both of those and you'd still have more provokers, and yet a mechanic as broken as no Provo Onto Players doesn't get the same amount of outrage as stealing or tracking.

Is it because it is not a douchebag skill?

oh,. No dude. I just mean,. now isn't the time to push the front into battle.
The heat of battle on the subject of pink ponies is not as heated as some may lead you to believe.
    It will blow over.

Please pursue your crusade but pick and choose your battles wisely.
PS. I think tamed and non-tamed pets should be able to be provo'd onto owners/players. With some kind of defensive given by said player to deter the enraged body.

Take the ability for tames to target players and heads would roll! Bards need some defense and not just the run and hide kind!!

It boggles my mind that A pink pony musters up 8 pages of for/against posts, including 4(!) by the boss-man himself @Chris in 24 hours, when a MUCH bigger/impactful issues seems to be ignored (0 posts by @Chris on the subject).

This is such an easy fix for such a blatantly obviously broken mechanic that the lack of attention paid to it in spite of a 4yr old discussion in the matter makes it seem that staff actualy WANT it to stay this way.

Only being here a short time (Around 2 months) I do agree wild mobs should be provo-able onto ANYTHING in game, including players. But, tamed pets should not be able to though (Meaning trained pets onto masters, or each other shouldn't be possible).

    My 02. cents.

    Helpless tamers?

They have effing dragons and nightmares.

Provoking stuff onto PKs or griefers in general has long been a part of UO, it's essential as a form of defence for a farming provoker.

I was asked in IRC why I wanted this. The short answer is:

    (1) Accuracy - This should be reason enough.
    (2) Defense - Even if to be able to get a recall off, a bard should be able to defend himself with his tamborine and using 2 skills (at least).
    (3) Spawn control - The easy cop out is to say "go find another monster", well, what if I told you I had a monster aggroed on an archer, when I want him aggroed on a parry/dexxer?
    (4) Fun - Most important of them all

But really, (1) should be more than enough. Particularly considering that this behaves practically identical to the "all kill" command.

And really, you have the same odds as provoking onto humans as you do provoking mobs onto their own kind.

You'd be lucky to get a balron/dragon/etc...onto a PK but it would be worth the lucky shot if you did.

There is no more douchebag skill than tracking in all of uo.
Tracking wipes thieves out at champ spawns and makes murderers not have to work too hard for their kills.
Tracking should be a complimentary skill to another skill.. for example, if you have taming you track animals and monsters well but not so good on players and npc's. If you have forensics, then it will track players and npc's but not monsters and animals. And then some skills should have some anti-tracking value.. like hiding, stealth, stealing.. if you have GM all three of those you should only be able to be tracked by a 100 tracker with 100 forensics. I don't think detect hidden should be in the mix because detect hidden doesn't track things, it's for detecting hidden properties on items, not tracking 'live' things.

Was this the right thread? Sorry, but you mentioned tracking first!

OF COURSE!!! Slayers would help with such large creatures, but you'd have pretty much 100% chance of getting a Blood or Poison Ele, or an Elder Gazer! Specially if you have discord too.

Provo should never be a pvp skill. You want to make it so every player needs to use 200 skill points on music and provo in order to fight monsters or pks. That's unreasonable. It should be a sideline skillset. It should not be the primary skillset of the shard. As it is now, you more or less have to decide if you are pvm or pvp. If provo can be used on players then you no longer have to make that choice. Provo tamers will be the norm.
