Hello all, I'm a new player here at UO:R, having been playing a month, so I thought I would drop a line on the forum to introduce myself, and more importantly give some quick thoughts on the state of the current new player experience. 1. There are lots of competition out there As everyone probably already knows (and I honestly had no idea) there are lot of player run shards out there and choosing to come here was both a product of good luck and a little research. I can tell you, though, that there were 3 things that were essential in my decision: - The awesome website: this thing is comprehensive and makes the new player experience so much easier, and was a major contributor to why I picked this shard over others - The very active Forums: demonstrated an active community of folks that cared - The commitment to the game: The marketing of this shard was spot on. Perfecting the golden age of UO is exactly what old players like myself (1997-2003) want to go back to when we decide to come back to UO. All that being said, I still feel lucky to find this shard among so many. There are other potential players out there that want to join, or may not like their shard. How might we better reach out to them to find their home? 2. Excellent Staff - About 3-4 days into my new player experience, a counselor showed up at my location while I was farming, welcomed me to the server, got me registered and answered all the questions I had. We had a one on one conversation for about 10 min. - This interaction in and of it self solidified my loyalty to this shard 10 fold. I immediately talked a few of my friends into coming to UO:R. Great work by the staff. 3. Great Guides, More YouTube - The guides for different skills/builds were very helpful to me to get the most out of my play time and AFK time as well. - Keza's YouTube channel also provided a great play by play on starting out, but also gave me a peek into what the more advanced players are up to and what I can expect to be doing after some considerable time here. His AMIB runs, Treasure hunting, and holiday event runs were great to watch and learn - Besides Keza's channel, I did a cursory search and didn't find much else, although I will admit that I haven't touched twitch. Any more videos on YouTube would be a great help. 4. It took a long time to understand the meta of this game - I read the site, forums and watched Keza's videos for hours before and while playing this game. Over time I am getting to know what works and what doesn't, but this is definitely an impediment to new gamers just showing up. That's about it. Thanks to Chris and the staff for putting this thing on, as I am enjoying the hell out of it. Right now I've got 2 characters: Nakor II and Ronin Ferick that I am playing in and around Ocllo. Haven't ventured forth out of the new player program, but it is happening soon. See you in game!
Thanks for your feedback and reflection of this shard. It truly helps to hear such constructive perspective from our newer players. Have a great time here buddy
