Project Status 395 of 1338 Items Linked to the Compendium

In an effort to improve the level of information available in our compendium we are starting a project to reward players for helping author articles and guides to fill in some information gaps on the Renaissance website.

Since we use a custom design wiki(the compendium) it does not have the public editing features that most other shards enjoy, however it is drastically more interactive and we are slowly improving the accessibility to information. This next step in its evolution will allow us to link every item in the world to helpful information about that item.

You can see some of the initial work being done to make this possible being added to the website. The search utility will now have a default compendium link for each item type in the world, and the item database will also have the same links. Indicated by a wiki icon placed next to the item. So far out of the 1300 different item types in the world, we have about 300 matching articles.
    Example1.png
    Example2.png

In an effort to complete this task we will be posting a list of various articles and guides that we need to finish this project here. Players will submit their articles in simple text format in this thread for review. For guides you will post them into the guide sub forum link usual and post a link here.

To reward our players for their time and effort we will be offering a bounty program in which special platinum trophies will be provided to the players based on the quality of work of each article or guide. The type of trophy you can earn will depend on the complexity and length of the subject you choose.

For example a simple article about prospectors tool would result in a 1 platinum trophy. A detailed article on the various types of ore, how ore veins work, including pictures of the various ores, the skills required would result in a medium trophy. While a detailed guide on carpentry addons and the methods of which to craft them, including pictures and training advice would result in a top tier trophy. These will be decided by the staff and noted in this thread as articles and guides are submitted.

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Note: Should you have already submitted a guide in the past that I have missed that covers these subjects you may submit it towards this bounty program. Depending on the content of it we might recommend you break it into smaller articles or add more information to it.

Please do not hesitate to contact me on IRC (Telamon

    Article Authoring Tips and Tricks

!!Important!! When submitting articles for the compendium please do not use any bbcode except what is automatically placed by the forum process. Fonts, sizes, bullets, etc will be stripped out and replaced with hypertext for use in the compendium. Only use BBCode and Rich Text formating when creating a guide or long article for the guides section.

Use Notepad++, it has a spellchecker and no text formatting allowing for easy cut and paste into the forums.

Use line breaks. This is a common one I use for compendium articles.
Simply insert this html string into any compendium article submission
    HTML:
    <img src='[url]http://www.uorenaissance.com/images/grey_seperator.png[/url]'/>
or use the image function when writing a forum post (for guides

    Adding images to forum posts
To add an default image to a forum post that exists in the item database. Search for the item in the database and right click on the image in the listing choosing "Copy Image Url"
This will place something similar to this on your clipboard.
    http://www.uorenaissance.com/images/Clothing/Item 0x139D.png
Click the image icon in your forum post and then paste the link into the post.

Should the image you need not exist in the database you can do a few things. You can place <<< Image of _______ Here >>> in your document and the Renaissance staff will fill this in for you. Or you can take the picture yourself and upload it using the forums upload feature.

Note: Do not use foreign image hosts. All pictures need to be hosted on the Renaissance website. So no imgur, trillian etc. Those images will have to be replaced with Renaissance hosted links.

Adding images to compendium article submissions.
Should you want to submit an article for the compendium and it includes images of items make sure to use the html format vs the bbcode format. Should this be a bit to confusing, you can simply use the <<< Image of _______ Here >>> option and the staff will place the images there for you.

An example of the html tag would be this
    HTML:
    <img src='http://www.uorenaissance.com/tools/c2/139D/2213'/>
An example of a staff assistance image would be
    <<< Image of EstatuePegasus, Hue 2213 >>>

Either is fine and will help the players reading the articles greatly. Please use as many images are relevant.

Should you need to include an image that is of something in the game, a window, a gump, etc. You may upload it using the forum upload feature and we will convert it to a hosted image. Please when possible use large images (greater than 350x350) of a high resolution.

Razor by default takes screenshots at a low quality jpeg setting. If you adjust this to PNG it will take high quality images with the screenshot function. You can also hit Alt+Printscreen and paste the clipboard into MS Paint. Simply crop the image and then save/upload it to your post.

How to use the Renaissance Image Hue Link
Should you want to easily include colored items in your submissions you can use the following link.
    http://www.uorenaissance.com/tools/c2/139D/2213

The last value is the hue, and the 2nd to last value is the item id. You can determine this by checking the item detail pages in the database or by downloading UO Fiddler.

If it's any consolation to those who do take this on, I never got any plat for what I've already done but I hope to see much more community involvement here.

    Gems and Gem Values
    [IMG]
The looting and selling of gems off the corpses of monsters can be very profitable and is recommended for both new and veteran players alike. Gems can be sold to both NPC Jewelers and Provisioners. When selling a lot of gems to NPC vendors, razor sell agents are invaluable.

    NPC Vendors Pay:
    [IMG]Amber 25
    [IMG]Citrine 25
    [IMG]Ruby 37
    [IMG]Tourmaline 47
    [IMG]Amethyst 50
    [IMG]Emerald 50
    [IMG]Sapphire 50
    [IMG]Star Sapphire 62
    [IMG]Diamond 100
    [IMG]

It is important that you are getting the top dollar for your gems from NPC vendors. The amount of gold NPC vendors pay per gem is affected by their inventory. NPC vendors will stop paying default sell price after they have been sold 25 of any particular item. After 25 items, the vendor will pay considerably less per gem. This can be easily worked around by selling gems at a different jeweler or provisioner shop.

*NPC vendor's inventories will reset every hour, however are only checked once a player gives the "vendor buy" command. So before you begin selling again to a vendor after having waited the hour, say vendor buy, then begin selling.
An alternative use to gems other then selling to NPC vendors: they can also be used to recharge communication crystals. A gem will recharge 10 times the amount it costs to buy (I.E. a sapphire that costs 100 gold will recharge 1000 points)

    NICE!!!
I almost feel bad taking credit for the work I've done. I really don't do it for credit or recognition or I would have flapped my lips about it in the past. I am passionate about UO and particularly Renaissance and will continue to pour hours into this shard by helping flesh out the details on the website, helping test patches and generally doing everything I can to support the shard. Hopefully it makes up for how much of an a@#$ole I am, for some form of balance, which is what this shard is all about.

Can someone please write an article on what the heck the various Dueling classifications are? And what is and isn't usable in the arena. Pets, magic fish, poison, skills, I dunno. Maybe everyone who participates in the duels knows what they are but I have no idea.

    Ethereals
    [IMG]
    ethereal.jpg
    [IMG]
Ethereal Mounts are special mounts that are summoned from specific blessed statues. They cannot be killed and are never without a rider on them. While dismounted, double-clicking the statue will begin a 5 second mounting sequence. The mounting sequence breaks hiding/stealth and can be interrupted.
They are available for purchase from platinum vendors for 500 platinum and can come in 5 variations. They take up 1 control slot while mounted. Ethereal mounts are blessed, which means they cannot be stolen and and stay with the owner in the event of death as long as they are in the primary backpack.

    Beads
    [IMG]
[IMG] Beads come in 2 variations, "Beads" and "Glass Beads". Both variations have the same hue and only differ in their names on click.
They cannot be worn and have no purpose in game other then for use in home decorating. "Beads" can be purchased from Jeweler NPCs for 27 gold. "Glass Beads" were a semi-rare drop from during the 2014 Ultima Online Renaissance Thanksgiving Event.

    Reagents

    There are 8 reagents:
    Mandrake Root
    Blood Moss
    Garlic
    Spider Silk
    Sulfurous Ash
    Black Pearl
    Nightshade
    Ginseng

*Note: Reagents are commonly referred to as "Regs."

    Uses:
Reagents are commonly used when casting magic spells. Reagents are also commonly used to craft potions and magic scrolls.

    upload_2015-1-23_0-26-24.png

There are a number of ways to obtain reagents:
    1) Mage vendor shops in most towns. (Note: Joining the mage guild by using the command "(Guidlmaster Name) Join" and paying a fee of 500gp will decrease the price of some reagents sold by NPC Mage Vendors.

    2) Faction vendors. These vendors can be obtained only if your faction controls a town and has enough silver in said town to place a faction vendor.

    3) Player Vendors. Several players have stocked vendors commonly found in Yew or Occlo. Prices Vary.

    4) Scavenging reagents found on the ground throughout the world. You can add each reagent to your scavenger agent within Razor to automatically pick up reagents as you adventure. This is not a primary way to obtain reagents.

    5) Monsters. You can obtain reagents from some magic casting monsters throughout the world upon killing and looting them.

    Pricing (Mage Guild Member/Faction):
    Mandrake Root: 3gp Ea.
    Blood Moss: 4gp Ea.
    Garlic: 3gp Ea.
    Spider Silk: 3gp Ea.
    Sulfurous Ash: 3gp Ea.
    Black Pearl: 4gp Ea.

    Champion Skulls

    upload_2015-1-23_1-14-21.png

Combining all skulls will allow the group to summon the Harrower. The skulls can be combined using an altar found in the Star Room, an area accesible via a pre-marked rune or a trek deep into Terathan Keep. By placing the skulls on the altar a gate will open and teleport players to the dungeon where the Harrower will be found.

This in depth guide will detail spawning and its rewards.

    Black Dye Tub:

    upload_2015-1-23_9-9-11.png

A black dye tub is obtainable through the Tailoring Bulk Order Deed System.

Specific single BODs or a combination of small BODs into a large BOD will reward you with a black dye tub.

The black dye tub can be used to dye items of clothing or cloth/bolts.

Several players have placed black dye tubs in public homes near common shopping areas for all to use.

    This item can be stolen.

    Bank Checks:

    upload_2015-1-23_9-20-7.png

A bank check is obtainable at any bank. You can create a bank check by saying "Check XXXX" (XXXX is the amount you wish to make the check)

Bank checks can be created in any amount from 5000 to 1000000.

You can redeem the full value of a bank check by placing it into your bank box and double clicking it. Doing this will deposit the bank check's full value into your main bank box.

Checks are commonly used to trade large amounts of funds between players in safety. Checks are blessed thus cannot be stolen and will not drop to your corpse upon death (If the check remains in the main backpack container and you are not a murderer).

    Bed Roll
    [IMG]

[IMG] Bedrolls are used to log out quickly from any location in junction with the camping skill. They can be purchased at a Provisioners Shop. To utilize a bedroll, one must first build a small fire using kindling, which will start a 30 second timer until the camp is secure. Once the camp is secure, indicated by a system message, you place the bedroll on the ground. Double click the bedroll to open it, then double click it again the recieve the logout gump. Logging out through the gump will put the bedroll back into your pack.

    Big Fish:

    upload_2015-1-23_9-24-42.png
    upload_2015-1-23_9-25-1.png

A big fish is obtainable through fishing. A fisherman can begin fishing up big fish at 95.0 skill. Big fish are not common and will only be obtained after killing a fished up sea serpent or deep sea serpent and looting the big fish from it's corpse.

A big fish will range in weight from 1 to 200 stones. Big fish with low weight and those with higher weight are more uncommon.

Using a taxidermy kit on a big fish will allow you to mount the fish on a plaque for decorative purposes.

Player run fishing tournaments judge winners on the weight/frequency/color/etc of big fish.

Outside of player run tournaments and decoration big fish hold very little value.

    Board Games (Backgammon, Checkers, Chess)
There are 3 board games; Backgammon, Checkers, and Chess. Double clicking them will open up their respective game boards, which have freely movable pieces which are saved where you place them in the event that you close the board before the game is over. Game boards can be locked down or secured inside of a house you either own or are co-owned to, and carry the same security functionality of containers. This means you can secure them to friends, co-owners, or owner only levels of access.
These are currently not available for purchase at provisioners shops due to an item count irregularity, but can be obtained by paging a gamemaster.
