This shouldn't be the case. If an honorable bard robs a criminal, Darkwing the innocent shouldn't be able to slay him in town right after. To clarify: "This shouldn't be the case" means, "this was never how it has ever worked in UO, and also doesn't make any sense, as stealing from a criminal is not a criminal offense."
Must be fixed now, I stole from a thief yesterday (unknowing he was a thief) and my character stayed blue and I was able to bank the extremely nice item. I've never seen a thief with such nice items in his pack.

So the red is outside picking posies and enjoying life... then comes along a dirty rat thief who steals their sweet roll right out of their backpack. Hey! What gives?, says the red player killer HA! HA!, says the thief Looks like you win you dastardly thief. I have absolutely no recourse to prevent you from griefing me! Bewww hewww! *sob* A-bewww hewww!
True Story it's also not how it is supposed to work you shouldn't get a criminal flag (ie permagrey) from stealing from a criminal or a murderer.
