Which character (below) is better suited for PvP and why? Thanks! Mage/Fencer: (7xGM) Anat Eval Fencing Healing Magery Med Tactics Fencer: Anat 100 Eval 80 Fencing 100 Healing 100 Magery 60 Med 40 Resist 100 Tactics 100 EDIT: Found this guy/template. Best PvPs is a Stun Mage. For 1v1 Mage fencer is cool, but is more like; Fencing Anat Tactics Magery Eval Med S.Ressist
Thanks for the feedback, Guerry. Can someone tell me if resist is really that helpful? With GM resist I can only remember resisting a few poison spells and maybe a harm spell or two. Definitely never resisted an explosion or flamestrike... Also, still looking for votes on my two current templates. I'm too lazy to train other skills at the moment.
Yes, it is that helpful. Go ebolt yourself on a no resist character. With resist, the spells do less damage even if you don't resist. Yay! 40 damage EBs! Also, without resist, MB will WRECK you if you aren't pretty balanced. (not that this is a problem for most fencers) If the standard is effectiveness, I don't like either of your templates, tbh. Also, if I was going to roll no resist, it would be like this: Fencing Anatomy Tactics Magery Meditation Eval Inscription
Wirth ressist u always take 25-50% less dmg. With out it u can get easily instakilled by the regular; Stun+Explo+Explo pot+Ebolt Combo and u wont even have the chance to take a heal pot, even if at full hp. Just wait for a ressist party and go afk there for a few days .
GM resist figures heavily into the magery damage formula. It makes a huge difference. Templates: depends on the type of pvp your going to be involved with. I like an inscription mage for zerg work. Arena pvp, ctf and some field pvp a heal mage is handy. 1 v 1 field fencer mage is probably the strongest magery based template. As most have seen a DP war fork tooting heal fencer with support magery is deadly in close quarters combat. If you can survive a mages first major mana expenditure you'll have the upper hand and will keep them using mana defensively (depending on their template of course). I have used 90 resist on a few characters and see little difference on test usually around 1-5 hp worth of damage difference (caster GM 5x vs recipient GM 4x with 90 resist casting ebolts only and not like I did 1k of them, around 50). Make your template of choice on test and see if you like it. I made a hybrid LJ and playing that template against a DP fencer is frustrating. What I do is make different pvp toons for different scenarios. My choice is your first template but drop healing for resist.
The eval fencer can be a nice template in the right hands, i prefer tankmages though. Fencing for tankmages works the best here in my opinion, but im having a lot of fun as Swordsmage too this would be the template i would suggest you for playing a Tankmage: Fencing Anat Tactics Magery Med Eval. Int Resist If you want to keep healing and play as dexxer, i do believe that Archery can be very useful in the right hands (Seriously, 2-3 Archers with heavy XBows can oneshot you, and you can use it for chases/killshots too) Fencing Archery Anat Tactic Heal Magery Resist If your not a fan of Archery (there are various resons for that) you can also go for the poison fencer, its very often used here and quite deadly. Other suggestions would be the Med warrior or Scribe fencer Template. Tracking can also be a viable choice on a fencer if you have a group going. hope this might be helpful
I also have this template. I forgot about this guy, is he a stun mage? (Showing my pvp newbness) 7xGM: Anat Eval Inscription Magery Med Resist Wrestling
In the case of your two fencer templates - you either pick healing or you pick eval int. The following skills are a given at GM for any fencer: Magery Resist Anatomy Fencing Tactics Then: Eval+Meditation - high int, fencer mage Healing+Meditation - low int, dexer Healing+ Poisoning - low int, poison dexer The third template you mentioned is a standard stun+scribe mage. It's the meta template for group pvp. There is no better all around template for real pvp. But pvp is a broad subject so it's worth asking what you intend to do. If you're in groups then stun/scribe is pretty standard. If you're by yourself then the fencing tank or dex fencer is a fair choice. If you are at CTF or tournaments or dueling then these templates experience different strengths and weaknesses.
Looks like I'm going to use my scribe/stun mage until I can swap healing out for resist on my fencer mage. Thanks for all the help guys!
Head over to the main UOR page and use the search function for inscription. It should direct you to a summary of the skill as well as an answer to your good question.

I honestly prefer the healer stun mage over scribe mage. Most pvpers run with mana drain wands and will drop your reflect within a second if your fight 1-2 or even 2-3. Healer mage you can at least time a bandage between their dumps or on the run. Along with heal pots and gheal wands it can be difficult to kill. Cheaper to build than scribe mage. I enjoyed playing my scribe mage when TB was active and we'd have equal fights against CoM or SL but now I just run my heal mage.
Make sure you have balanced stats and carry buff pots (strength and agility). They are quite useful in giving you that extra bit.
