I think UOR is ready and in need of some Texas Hold Em. It would bring the community together and let the house take a small percentage of gold every hand for a sink.

Maybe only have the poker room open for certain times like Friday and Saturday nights to limit it and create some excitement.

    All in favor say aye!

btw, a poker system exists, but its not live (to my understanding its due to a bug that could potentially crash the server, but i might be wrong)

It is, however, playable on the Test Server!

I thought about poker tournaments in the past, and they would be totally do-able, just not on live at the current state.
My suggestion: Tournament format, everyone pays UO Gold into a pot, Tournament is hold either on the Test Server, or 3rd party programm (pokerstars for example). Top 3 wins (20, 30, 50% of the total pot)

    HOWEVER!!
Having it on Live would be totally awesome and its on my big wishlist for this shard actually (same as... *cough* provo onto tamers and *cogh* readable, locked down books)

@Chris Please sir, let us Husbands/Father's who rarely get to leave the house for a mens night out, have poker here. My wife won't allow me to go to a poker night but once a year (typically my birthday weekends). I need this... no, we need this lol

as an event it would be ok, but my experience with poker as part of a UO shard is people quitting hating on each other and mostly negative crap

We did this pretty much weekly on a 3rd party site and it was a blast even with the same faces usually claiming the final placements. That site was neat as it allowed for private leagues and private multi table tourneys. Then after a while they stopped letting you get free chips for it and so it ended there and I'm not sure where Mr Fuji went, he disappeared after hah.

There was as low as 25k buy in some weeks and I think the highest I took part of was 100k. Never seen a hint of drama or nastiness, nor anyone trying to pull a scam with the buy ins or payouts

2 different places I've been i watched *over time* it go from something fun mainly because there was only a 5-10-25k buy-in to where people got more brave or greedy whatever you want to call it and next thing you know there was a 50-100k table then a 1-2.5m table. people would get screwed up inebriated whatever term you like to use, or just brave or stupid, bet what took them months or years to make, lose, claim it was rigged or staff was telling someone the outcome of it because they can do that (but never proven), just a ton of problems in the long run.
Like i said it starts off all nice and fun and innocent, then people think they are the poker champs of the world make stupid bets and the shit circle starts again. Long term poker or permanent poker will eventually be the death of the place take it how u want and believe what you want but i guarantee people will end up leaving in time and accusing others of cheating.
It's called a crack table in time because people actually get addicted mentally to the game itself and dont know when to stop.
then there will be people scamming for gold or items to get gold selling off of items of worth for pennies on the dollar or equivalent of gold.
It will end up being a shitshow if it becomes permanent i guarantee it.
Like i said for a temporary event it would be great people will have fun with it, no permanent damage, Permanent poker will cause trouble.

Interesting perspective, and makes me a bit curious on how online gambling changes how a person "ticks".

Can't argue against ya, I've only played personal cash games, been on a river boat once attempting a $250 qualifier, and free chips online where everyone pushes all in cause nothing matters. The short lived UOR run was fun, but I have never seen it deployed in any game over time that is part of a virtual and persistent world. Also never been to a casino nor have i met anyone who lost it all or went from indulgence to compulsive regarding gambling.

I would have wished it to be a biweekly or monthly event anyway. If only to keep from wearing the new off of it, and to prevent a profession of whales and sharks.

Iv'e watched people lose years of grinding/time/wealth in-game and i've watched people start with 100k they grinded for and end up with 500m+ and bam the bug sets in and they think they found a new way to get rich fast. Then BAM! gone again, then they rage quit. its similar and also as simple as that.
Then like the overnight political experts due to their vast knowledge from TV and news the same thing with poker players, they think they are poker kings overnight because they won big, then lose and rage troll quit etc. its a circle jerk if a permanent fixture or not controlled

Lol all kidding aside. Everyone rages wether or not it's poker, pvp or pvm. Ctf during off season is a weekly thing here. Which is basically a gamble as well considering you're thrown into groups with people you've never fought with before and have the chance of Plat trophies. I've seen people rage at the end of the matches quite a bit.

Either way it wouldn't hurt to try it out for a bit. Maybe even once a month. Not everyone plays poker. The ones who do know that online anything may have glitches so there is that risk. I think it would bring more people together. It's why I voted yes on top of good ole fun.
