It's been stuck like that after hours of wrestling. Any ideas? I put a weapon in the co-parties hands but they have 0 fighting skill. I at least should get crappy gains with someone with no fighting skill as opposed to no gains?
No, you will not get crappy gains. You will get no gains. Just take your co party to town and train in the weapon skill that is in his hand. That will get you immediately into the gaining territory again and possibly to GM. I would make ur co party a wrestler, let him work it up at the same time and just add a line to bandage urself occasionally too.
There is about a 70 point gap where you stop getting gains. So, a target who has zero skill will get you to about 70, while a target with 30 skill will let you GM.
