But if I can collect wood and skill gain from using a halberd, it must have a damage bonus or else what's the point of skill gain? I could be wrong... but why would this be an issue?
Polearms do not get the LJ bonus. Hally and bardiche are the two swordsmanship polearms Hatchets, plain axe, double, two hand, large battle, executioner, and battle axe get the bonus. War axe is 1 handed macing weapon and gets no effect. Edit: also you can equip these weapon types and try to gain LJ from using melee, only weapons that receive the LJ bonus will increase the skill passively.
Tested it out on test center this morning. Found that with just Swords/Tactics/Anatomy (100str100dex) there was a steady 20-25 hp damage dealt with an occasional 40 hp dealt. With added lumberjacking there was a steady 30+ hp damage dealt with the occasional 50-51 hp dealt. Could it be that it may be bug to where the Lumberjacking skill indeed does give extra damage dealt then? This was all done with a halbert.
I'm not one to do that to people. Especially people I have respect for. The only reason why I can see where you're coming from with saying it's bugged, is that UOStratics has the listed LJ weapons for this era. I didn't see but a hatchet, an axe, a battle axe, a double axe and a executioner axe. Halberd and Bardiche were listed in but under pole arm. It really didn't answer my question though. If you find something I didn't feel free to send it to me.
JUST TESTED IT!! Not on the test server, I realized there are some differences there (low dex there does not affect weapon speed... at lest archery). So just to be sure, I set a toon of mine with NO lumberjack to raise... and hit another toon. For a while. Absolutely NO increment in lumberjack skill. And in the exact moment I switched to regular axe... skill gain! I equipped a halberd and stuck again.... I re-equiped a real axe... and skill gain inmediatly on first blow (and second...). So I have absolutely no doubt, halberd does not receive LJ bonus, even although you can chop woods. If I don't get skill gain with a halberd, it is because I am not using the lumberjacking skill when landing blows. But guess what... I DO receive skill gain when lumberjacking on a tree with a halberd. Weird.
Halberd bardich do not get lj bonus only axes get bonus. See list for axe types -(war axe) does not get bonus http://www.uorenaissance.com/itemlist/Weapon
If only I had a swordsman without lumberjack to test weapon damage on the live server and have the same stats, skills and use the same weapon on the same target. Anyone out there with these templates and time to work out the average damage from 100 swings? @Chris able to give a quick answer?
Pretty sure LJ is 2% for every 5 skill points, with a bonus at GM. Which isn’t era accurate, but is left that way so that people aren’t two shotting other players in PvP with a GM double axe. Polearms (hally/bardiche) shouldn’t receive any benefit from LJ. If they do, I wouldn’t be surprised, as a lot of things here aren’t era accurate or even correct lol
I am 10 LJ skill points away from this, Nusir. Two almost identical toons (same stats / skills). One with LJ, one not. When my LJ is ready, I will conduct this test, if no one else has, and we have no official response from Chris about this.
Keep in mind there are some differences between test and live. Somebody told me the other day that test was running on a patch like 4 years old. One area you can see this is bandage timers. They are longer on test. Not sure if that has any bearing on this conversation but something to consider anyway. I am 100 percent certain that halberd and bardiches never got lj bonus. If they do here, that's a major change. I dont think they do though.
Halberd and Bardiche fall under the Polarm catagory - Concussion blows happen, but the +dmg bonus is not applied All other 2 handed axes receive LJ dmg bonus. 110 is the dmg cap from any melee weapon. Really only achievable with High end slayer vs. low armor target. It can be achieved with halberd, all other axes (with LJ +10), or war hammers that iv heard. Because a slayer x2 all applied dmg you would have to get your base to 55+
