What screen size do you typically find is the maximum that you can make it before you start to have "black box artifact" at the perimeter? My current monitor is 24" 1920x1080, and I do indeed play at 1920x1080. Ive experimented with downscaling the resolution in the past but always found that it distorted the graphics even if I maintained the same exact aspect ratio. Im really surprised that in this 20 year old game there isnt more info available out there with regards to minor settings and tweaks like this. Ive found info but....considering the longevity of this game im just shocked there isnt more!
I run at 975 x 740 has minimal black corners. Before I had 960 x 725 which I recall after experimenting was the maximum without black corners most of the time.
1100 x 770 = Game Window Size... On a monitor that is 1440 x 900 resolution specifically for UO. Leaves the perfect amount of black on the right side paperdoll + backpack + status window... and the perfect amount below for spell icons. ... and when I need to watch 3 clients at once, I drag them all to the "real monitor" at a high resolution.
There is, you just didn't find it. The settings are subject to the equipment. I'll keep my answer "basic" 1 c=satisfied 2 set resolution 640 x 480 3 test c 4 if c=satisfied then end 5 a=a+10 6 b=b+10 7 goto 3 Seriously though, it depends on your monitor and your GCard. Play with the settings, test, alter, test again until you find that sweet spot for you and your needs. G;luck.
Hmm...kinda surprised how much I like desktop resolution 1400x900 with game windows size 1100x770. Think I need to tweak a tiny bit more but.... Anyone know if its possible to make your monitor resolution size change with Nvidia settings when a specific program is opened? I know that you can change a variety of other settings with Nvidia control panel but I wasnt able to find that one... Thx again
I use 1024x768 and that works pretty well for me, though it does still have black corners. However, if you make an in-game hotkey to ToggleUpdateRange and another to set MaxUpdateRange. I have no clue what some of the other UpdateRange stuff does, but with these set and toggled on the corners are no longer black on areas that I have traversed.
Interesting...Im going to try that and play around with it. I found The MaxUpdateRange but cant find ToggleUpdateRange....There is ModifyUpdateRange , SetUpdateRange, UpdateRangeColor, and a bunch of others....but...I cant find a ToggleUpdateRange there. Am I just missing it? Looked several times.
Hah. That's cause it's ToggleRangeColor. Sorry about that. It seems to restore the black colors to the natural coloring.
Can someone elaborate on this please? Ive tinkered around with it and cant seem to get anything to work or see any difference. How exactly do you use these commands? Thanks
You need to set a hotkey for it and then use the hotkey while in game. If you do not have black corners then I don't think it will do anything. ToggleRangeColor = Off ToggleRangeColor = On
