Fishing poles are not the only items in the world without durability, scissor do not wear out. At first glance one might frown at that, but scissors are used to make aids, hides into leather. etc. So in a bit of a board since they are a tool for resources. As far as fishermen getting f%#$ as much as miners. Well fishermen/ladies do already. Look at all the various monsters fisher folk face. You can toss in a net and get three things spawn, while fighting these a wondering water elemental can start tickling you. Or your boat can get stuck on a dolphin or some such and a unhappy sea serpent can decide to make you lunch. And did I hear the word Pirate??? But, back to the basic concept. I have nothing against tools wearing out. I also have nothing against way things are now. From what I can remember of OSI, fishing poles and scissors did not wear out. This is part of the basic game engine, thus to alter it would need to be done with that coding. Staff might decide to do this at some time, but can't see it happening in the near future. Marjo Governess of Wispfelt Westra on irc
Instruments made by GM carps are more durable then instruments purchased at a store or made not by GM. Exceptional tools made by a tink (sewing kits, tongs, etc) have more uses then non exceptional ones. With the upcoming changes and additions being made to carpentry - this is the perfect time to make a Carpentry related change.
