Hey guys, just want to hear some thoughts on this layout. I have never played with Mage and still in progress of "cooking" it, also have no real experience with him, all I know is from reading other post, learning about spells, and combined with personal preferences "this" what came out. STR: 100 DEX: 25 INT: 100 Bellow skills all GM. Meditation Magery Evolution Intelligence Resisting Spells Healing Anatomy Hiding I understand that Inscription is one of the must skills with Magery but to me Hiding seems very appealing. Also I hear that Mage doesn't need Healing as it has a spell for that but in my "imagination" I can use that "time" to attack instead, whilst still healing. Yes time is longer but it's reliable...most of the time. Am I massively off with my thinking? I just wasn't being able to find a "Mage/Healer/Hider" template and it made me question it a bit Cheers!
On my mage I also have provocation and musicianship helps out when you want to not worry about the mob to much skills at GM Meditation Magery Evaluating Intelligence Resisting Spells Provocation Musicianship Hiding
I agree. Thats a very defensive template and with hiding can be very annoying at times to take down. If you are really hardcore about learning to mage, start with a 5x mage template with nothing else: Magery Eval Med Resist Wrestling Then, once you get the hang of it you can add in two more skills that will suit your playstyle. Definitely balance out your stats. What was said above or 80s/100int/45 dex works well too. Hiding works surprisingly well with healing. If youre low on health and feel a dump coming on, start a bandage (if you havent already) then off-screen and hide. Even if they know exactly where you are, they still have to reveal you somehow. If theyre well stocked theyll just toss purple potions, but if there not they have to spend 20 mana and about 3 seconds to reveal you. Just get in the habit of tabbing out whenever you hide. If your out farming hiding also works well to clear your monster aggro and put it onto someone else. Good luck, you will die a LOT, but have fun because once you figure it out youll be having a blast.
I think he means going out of war mode, otherwise you wont be able to hide. (Button TAB activates war/peace, hence tabbing out)
Not too sure what you mean by that. Can you expand? Going to jail for going out of war mode? You confused me, unless this is joke I didn't catch on What does DEX actually give to Mage? I can't find a straight forward answer online. I know it gives speed to fighters, a must have for archers etc.. but can't put my finger on Mage with DEX.
Dex on a mage is generally useless. The only reason to raise your dex a little on a mage is to deal with one thing: Mindblast (Well, to be honest, bandage timers get shorter with more dex and stun punch costs 15 stamina. 35-45 dex will reduce your bandage time by about a second and give you a couple three stun punches before you have to chug a refresh potion.) With 100s 100i 25d mindblast will do 40 damage unless its resisted, in which case it will only do 20. You can run with those stats, but its risky. Once someone finds out theyll spam it on you and its pretty hard to deal with that kind damage output. Tabbing out removes you from war mode. You auto swing in war mode and swinging back on someone will reveal you. You will also auto swing after the first time being damaged from something. Make sure to tab because a smart opponent will run next to you while your hidden hoping you swing on them.
PFR did tell a joke, a good one and not at your expense. He's just pimping his new Country and Blues album. Check it out, it's gonna be a chart topper! Yeah, yeah... What's your primary content going to be with this template? Anyway, regarding hiding. I'm of the minority that doesn't hold as much value for it's supposed utility as others do. My thief doesn't even have hiding. Yes... yes, I said it. If you can manage to off screen and hide on a PK, then the PK is a novice and you should be able to out offense him/her. Also, if the PK doesn't run immediately to your location right on top of you, back off and throw an exp pot... just hit recall, this PK is really a novice... or stick around and kill him/her. I'd rather see inscription on that template if you're going for a purist/monk style mage. Lots of fun and big on utility. PvM Great on a team. Tons of fun, lots of tools. Great single target damage. Solo Low/mid content My primary advice, find yourself a like minded active social guild.
That is very good info to know, as I am running hiding on my provo mage. Always learning something new in UO.
