Any advice on gaining taming at 95+ appreciated. Ill list what I have tried unsucessfully so far. Ive already read ALL of the UOR guides so no need to copypasta TY. FWIW I have GM tamers on many different UO servers but here...im having some real issues gaining skill 95+ 1. Jhelom Bull Pens - Just not worth. There are at least 2-3 tamers on each pen 24/7. Additionally even when the tamers arnt there people leave their hidden herders still macroing often and it interferes with any efforts. It takes SO MANY first tame bulls to gain skill 95+ I just dont see this as viable, at least with the # of taming macroers there. If it wasnt overpopulated LITERALLY 24/7 it would be viable but slow, but currently...Ive given up on Jhelom bulls. 2. Delucia bulls - Ive tried Rougish guide for increasing the bull respawn/population and in my hand it just doesnt work. Was this changed? I lead the bulls to the areas on his map and they dont respawn they just sit there making it even harder than it should be since these bulls are not killed and just sit there taking up respawn slots and I cant retame them for skill. 3. Hyaloth hell hounds - Excuse my language but fuck that stupid fucking technique rofl....Been there several times trying to get it set up and its just more frustration than its worth. Setting it up is frustrating and i just keep dying. Prob just me and how Im doing it which I assume isnt correct but I follow the Upgreyeds guide and pictures exactly and....no bueno. Too many hours invested without any real gains for me to consider going back to that technique. 4. Hyaloth hand taming. I roam hyaloth and paralyze/hand tame hell hounds by hand. OMFG its slow. I dont mind putting in hours of work but Ive hit a wall. Im just not gaining skill off of them hardly at all. Ill put in 90 mins of hand taming hell hounds for literally 0.1 or 0.2 gains. Its frustrating. 5. Destard hand taming - Drakes and to a lesser extent dragons. Its slow. Its dangerous. Its frustrating. Im gaining skill but its roughly about the same at hyaloth hell hound hand taming about 0.1-0.2 every 90 mins or so. The small beneift is when I hit GM i will already have dragons to choose from and maybe Ill have one that is bond worthy by then. 6. T2A roaming. Ive roamed T2s looking for bulls, giant toads, and other things that are 71+ minimum taming required., Too much running and not enough taming..Its slow...REAL slow. Any other suggestions? I had 1 small glimmer of hope yesterday in Delucia. Some really nice tamer who has mulitple tamers was taming once, twice, and leaving 3rd retame bulls for me., That was AWESOME I gained 1 point per hour from 93 to 95, then he had to leave. After that I spent the next 7-8 hours to get from 95.0 to 96.0 and prob another 2-3 hours after that with no skill gain. If anyone has other ideas for skill gains for taming 95/96 - 100 please offer suggestions TY
Do you have magery above 75? If yes, go to wind and keep taming drakes and dragons. They spawn quite quickly.
Fwiw, we've GM'ed 7 tamers at Jhelom, one in the past 2 weeks. We leave when there's major drama and come back. If I make another, I'll do it the same way.
Magery is currently 90. Ill try wind see how it goes. I cant get any gains there at all with the overpopulation of macroers. How are you getting enough bulls? Do you have 3 or 4 herders covering the whole pen working in succession or something? Ive personally given up on Jhelom I just cant herd enough bulls to make it worthwhile!
If I were in your spot, here's what I would do: Find an established tamer in IRC and offer to pay them a fair chunk of cash to help you finish taming. Give them a rune to a house you own. Block off half of the house with tables. Stand behind the table wall and start a macro that just continually tries to tame the nearest gray. The established tamer goes out and gets monsters specific to your skill level, pre-tames them as necessary, and then delivers them to your house. e.g. If you are at 97.5 skill level, a perfect animal would be a hell hound (base difficulty of 85.5). He tames it on one tamer to increase the difficulty to 91.5, releases it for his second tamer to tame, then delivers the hound to your house. The difficulty is now 97.5. He releases it on the other side of the table wall from you. Your chance to successfully tame it is near zilch, which should get you crazy fast gains.
I prefer the small pen because mostly if there's one person there, nobody else will bother. Then I herd stuff to me. If I have to use the big pen, no herders
Also the cave beneath the Covetous lich room would work out well. Just use Paralyze Fields to pin them in place and spam taming until you get them tamed. Kill spawn with them until another spawns, let it die, tame another, repeat.
As soon as you can do giant toads, go to Hopper's bog and teleport onto the one tile raised space where you can't take melee damage. Use another character to lure all the swamp spawn to your tamer. Do this until it slows in the 80s. Fire dungeon in t2a. There's a corner you can teleport into and take no melee damage. There's 20-30 lava lizards, hell hounds, hell cats, and other tamables. Keep spell casters away, use orc warriors to kill your tames. You'll go from mid 80s to 100 in a half a day.
See what happens when I don't take a pass through the farms once a day? People who are present are unable to macro because other people hoarding the spaces! I'm damned if I do, and you're damned if I don't!
I would do large hellcats that have been tamed once prior from this range to GM. I don't know what your schedule is like but if you will message me in IRC I can help you out or find someone willing to.
TY for all the responses and advice! PFR ill try that room and see if I can get gains that skill gain time frame looks awesome. Ill have my eyes out looking for u and others Im sure ill get some visitors after announcing Ill be there Mes...TY for the offer. I WILL contact you tonight after I get home from work in a few hours. Blaise... Covetous - good info I will try it out TY!
The one time I've gone by Jhelom bulls on my PK in...um....shit, maybe ever on this shard, I ran up and said "Hello!". The friggen guy responded so I wished him well and said had he not been attentive, he would have been dead. He was thankful and understanding. It was good fun.
I GMed in Delucia with another account (dexxer) killing bulls that I released. Good way to make a good chuck of leather to sell (or GM 3 tailors like I did for BODS). I felt like I was killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Yes it took awhile.
I always support a grief kill lol! Nothing like reading a 23486598236t98234 page thread about how much of a piece of shit you are for killing an AFK macroer. lol Keep it up I love it!
PFR has made the most sound advice thus far imo so as a fanboi I am obligated to cosign. Anyway... I do not support tamers. However, I do support players that contribute to the community. You stir the pot, that's good. I like ya kid, you got moxie. Yer gonna go places. Anyway, all kidding aside I suppose my initial advice depends on where your moral compass points. Were it me, and I was faced with an overpopulation of afk macroers at Jhelom farms, I'd "fix the glitch" and flat out kill them all. I mean, you are making a tamer after all... thus sold your soul to the debil™ so embody the tamer's outlook and take what you want. I just wouldn't do that tonight. Tonight, no one is going to be safe at Jhelom farms.
I gmd taming in 3 days starting at 50. I literally ran all over dagger island taming everything til I hit 71.1 then I went to the farms for a few hours to tame Bulls to 78.1. Then I used my first tamer to tame 8 bulls then released them next to a boat for my new tamer to tame them. Once I hit 85.1 I started paying people 20k to tame me 8 bulls and release them so I can retake then release them again. I did this all the way to 4th tames if I remember. It seemed that 8-16 bulls would get me the 7 points I needed to raise the difficulty of the next set. Lot of work but I think it's the safest fastest way.
I appreciate what you are saying its a trammy PvM way to play but why does it have to be black and white? Im a PvPer play 90% PvP only games and typically free for all open world PvP with full looting if its out there and its good! How else is someone relatively new to this 3 year old server where everything costs millions to make the gold necessary? After the tamer is done I will be working on my first PvP character here Kudos amfekk if i do another tamer thats the way I will go 100%. Unfortunately right now that just isnt a realistic possibility for your first tamer.
