    Another dream theatre song!

I almost went with this one because the pianist is wearing a wizard hat. I thought it would be fitting for this forum:

Mindless you should see the headphones I used to have. I was a pretty crazy audiophile.

I liked the dream theatre stuff because its REALLY well recorded.

A lot of people don't realize how much of a roll engineering plays in making a record sound good.

    IT'S HUGE. (live performance too)

I've seen plenty of great bands sound horrible with a shitty sound guy...

I found out the hard way. When I got my HE90 (electrostatic headphones) many of my favorite albums were so horribly recorded I could no longer listen to them. The headphones were just so clear and resolving, that you could really get into the music.

One of my favorite recordings was Dredg - El Cielo.

A flat frequency response is great (the frequency response of my speakers is super flat) ...

But we tend to enjoy a nice smile shape (Boosted highs, and lows, dipped mids) ... and so a lot of speakers designed for consumers do just that; boost the highs and lows.

So beyond being "poorly recorded" they may have even just been a little flat/dull sounding compared to what you are used to hearing... because engineers have to compensate for the boosted highs/lows in their productions.

Surely there were some shitty recordings too though. ;D

    Ah the loudness wars.

The loudness wars are something entirely different!

People over compressing their music and in turn; destroying any dynamic range... (between the highs and the lows.. volume wise) in the name of "sounding loud enough"...

and dynamics are soooo important in music.

When you look at the waveforms they just look like a GIANT SAUSAGE with no dips, peaks, or valleys. Meh.

Yea, that's what I was mainly referencing. Like the posterchild for the loudness wars was Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Californication. So compressed and full of digital clipping.

I found most of the newer mainstream stuff was just over compressed. Finding an album that was recorded well was like finding a gem. LOL.\\

EDIT - But most people have really shitty audio setups. So the compression is probably fine for 99% of people.

Just the fact that you recognize this even exists is deserving of much respect.

Most people wouldn't know a shitty recording from their assholes.

I love the idea of muting your drums by throwing a fucking blanket on them...

"Oh this kick drum needs to sound more... dull... Throw a fucking blanket on it!" (this video is a snare; obviously lol...)

Mindless, I was going to post a Daney Carry video, but you seemed to have already did that. So this is what you get now. Live with it.

I'm only like... 30 seconds in...

But that drummer has AMAZING CONTROL over his dynamics.... wow.

So Mindless, this one is a big risk too. It's not a fancy solo, but I tried to pick a whole track that is not only amazing on its own, but highlights the drums in an amazing way:

Behold, one of my favorite bands with a guest drummer from another amazing band:
