WALL OF TEXT SORRY. IF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THIS I SO MUCH APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE Ive mentioned this problem that I have had in the past several times. I have also heard of others who corroborate this issue that I am having although it doesnt appear to be uniform or consistant across the player base. I will call the issue a "freeze". My entire game freezes for about 2-3 seconds. My character freezes and is unresponsive. In game journal and monster and other player actions all freeze as well. After said 2-3 seconds everything "catches up". If i was moving beforehand even if I still have my finger on the mouse button I will not be moving after my game catches up. I need to reissue the move command. This problem occurs for me approximately every 15-20 (30?)seconds 100% of my in game time here on UOR since day #1/hour #1. The timing may or may not be correct I havnt actually timed it but its extremely frequent. There are so many variables that change and the only consistent one is the problem ONLY happens to me while playing UOR. I often time am watching streams on my 2nd monitor, or playing some other game while I have accounts that Im macroing and the only performance issues are with UOR, and UOR alone. If I am playing a different shard of UO on my 2nd monitor I do not experience this problem there. When I say I dont experience problems on these other platforms I dont only mean that I never see it I also mean that I am doing these simultaneously while playing on UOR and the performance of these other platforms is 100% unaffected at the same exact time the problem is occuring for me on UOR. I certainly could be wrong but i cant think of anything else other than a server-side issue that makes any sense at all. I play on 3 different computers at 2 different physical locations. I exclusively play with the UOR client downloaded from the UOR main page. I run as administrator and in compatibility mode Win XP SP2. I do have a small variety of client side art changes such as darkjournal, small dragons, green bags, several others. 1 of the 3 computers I have no art changes and still experience this problem and I do not believe I have the same exact art mods on the other 2 computers. Two computers are Win 7, One is Win 8. One computer is wireless and 2 are wired. All instances of razor on all characters have the CPU reduction DISABLED. Why in the world does this option even exist??? Worst setting UO ever imo. Ive done some personal side by side analysis playing on both my UOR and UOF accounts back and forth and side by side over the past few days. I use UOF as a comparison only I play here 100% of my active play time and dont personally care for much of anything on UOF. I get 0 freezing no UOF and overall the experience is MUCH smoother. I feel the choppiness I experience on UOR as compared to UOF. Its NOTICABLE. I didnt realize how much different my performance is here comparatively until I started doing these side by side comparisons but wow.....What a huge difference. As an aside I also often times have very slow loading of the uorforum.com website. On occasion it will take 30-60 seconds to load and rarely will even just timeout. Other times I load instantly. These are traceroutes from today from my main desktop computer Win7/wired and can provide detailed specs on components if needed. Although Im not overly knowledgeable about internet protocols I am a very technical hardware computer geek just much weaker on the software end. I have shown these to several people and everyone tells me that it looks good or even great. I have other traceroutes that I can post and are in my post history here on the forums as well. They have always 100% of the time been good to excellent. If there is any information I can give to help further uncover where/why/how to find and fix this problem let me know. Additionally I have gone step by step through the stickied guides several times and done everything in there step by step. More than once...... http://uorforum.com/threads/troubleshooting-high-ping-times-latency-connection-issues.1619/ http://uorforum.com/threads/troubleshooting-razor-client-problems.3960/ Have tried playing with excluding everything UOR from antivirus, as well as just disabling antivirus software with no effects or benefits. On the advice of others I tried moving my entire Razor install from C: drive to ProgramFilesX86 with no changes in performance. I have also tried using the UOR download of razor as well as an external razor download with no change.
Everyone is experiencing this. When we fight in mumble, when a spike hits everyone gets it at the same time. I am assuming this has something to do with the ddos protection, which would explain the staffs silence.
If so that blows chunks I was hoping it could potentially be something fixable. Even if it is something that cant be changed, I for one would appreciate knowing about it so I stop obsessing over figuring it out and fixing it.
Ive been in PM with Chris about this already but unfortunately to date he hasnt been able to give me any additional insight or help. This is why I brought it to the community to see if any fresh perspectives or additional eyes on the problem could uncover something or give me some new ideas.
I work with windows products for a living, and cant explain confidently why this helped me in several games, but it worked so I'm rolling with it. Try disabling IPhelper service. If you open start menu Run search for services find IP helper, right click, change to disabled, and also stop it. I found this when troubleshooting odd patching and packet loss issues in several other games I play. If anything it's worth a shot trying. IP helper put quickly is a tool for leveraging ipv6 functions. Most games don't use this, and some may even suffer with it on. League of Legends won't even patch on my win7 laptop or win10 desktop if this is on. I wouldn't be surprised if UO, being as old as it is, trips on it sometimes.
Pretty sure this is happening to everyone and I know why... and so does the staff. It's necessary right now. I'm okay with it so long as everything around me freezes at the same moment and for exactly as long as I do. It beats losing connection several times a day because some asshats think they have something to prove.
Im starting to get the idea and its sinking through my thick skull. Doesnt appear there is anything that can be done about this I guess I will just have to live with it. I will stop bumping/updating this thread and unless someone has something definitive that points in a different direction or a fix I would suggest noone else bump or respond either. TY for the responses and info so for though.
