I hereby decree lockpicking to be the slowest, most tedious and painful skill to GM on this shard. Worse than taming. BY FAR! 99.0 real and counting. I think Ive put approximately 30-35 hours so far to go from 95.0 real to 99.0 real and no clue how many more for 99.0-100.0. Thats 30-35 hours attended at keyboard with no macro.....Recall/hide/stealth/lockpick and since Im such a broke mofo I tele and loot every single chest no matter what mobs are around. Worst. UO. Skill. EVER! PS - The drop rate for masks sucks balls too. WAY too low imo. 2 masks in the 30ish hours so far. EDIT: Final results Total time 95.0-100.0 - 50 hours ESTIMATED Total # of LP attempts - unknown Total # of masks - 5-6 Total Gold accumulated (only and sold gems and gold) approx 400k (?)
They spawn as a rare in a chest, also. I believe the KoS fortress southeast of the Yew moongate has runes on the east side of the 2nd floor.
Yes but my final template doesnt have room for DH in it so I need to get 100 real LP LJ kinda sucks too Ill agree on that one! Never tried begging..Unless Im missing something I have no interest in it. As far as the KOS library...its the same runebooks as the Cove Fortress Library AFAIK?
Perhaps go on an adventure and find/mark your own chest rune books? I had a few interesting interactions while making mine, and while ""touring"" all the dungeons, relearned a lot of uo's subterranean geography/bestiary.
FINALLY hit GM. That really sucked. Will update OP with this info for easy future referencing. Total time 95.0-100.0 - 50 hours ESTIMATED Total # of LP attempts - unknown Total # of masks - 5-6 Total Gold accumulated (only and sold gems and gold) approx 400k (?) IMO this skill takes way way too long to GM, and Id also personally love to see a mask drop increase but maybe thats just me. The time could have been decreased without looting by....a little bit but not much. I found that even atter a full rotation of chests WITH LOOTING that sometimes the first one wasnt up again yet so looting was only a very small rate limiting factor IMO. FWIW.
While I (just a little bit) sympathize, I also have to appreciate any leveling that requires leaving the sanctuary of town. Thank you for completely looting. People that don't loot get found and hung by their toes from the nearest tree. There I read them poetry while in my underwear all night long only pausing to feed them tiny bites of lutefisk.
So it must make the chest stay there for a lot longer and not respawn if a person doesn't loot? Glad I've been looting everything (including chests left by others). The skill sure does take a long time to GM, but it's fairly fun in my opinion and decently profitable with all the gems, items and gold.
Theres heresay that if you dont loot the chests they take longer to respawn. Personally I did not see any evidence of that and I lockpicking 8 hours per day every day for the last 1 week. As far as it being fun....to each their own. I found it boring, tedious, and very unenjoyable. The loot was very poor also. Its like 8k per hour on average. Compared to ANY other type of farming its a very low gold output, but I dont think anyone lockpicks for the gold. FWIW.....
The cash would be in selling the wands. Otherwise, the loot/gold is pretty poor. However, I do run across adventurers while stealthing to these chests and I DO happen to have the stealing skill... The timers on the chests appear unaffected by the loot inside. I believe the chests decay at the same rate.
Go ahead and continue to just take the gold, gems, and wands and leave me the tunics and scimitars of ruin and see what happens!
Oh yes, the serfs do at least need some semblance of an occupation lest they lay about and sleep all day.
This was my experience also. I actually timed it empty/full and had the numbers written down at one time but that was long ago and I cant seem to find them now. Also, unless it's changed from the last time I inquired about it...DH does not add to your lock picking skill, it only allows you to attempt the locks sooner....it still uses your LP skill to see if you succeed or not. But, like I said, that may have changed since the last time I asked about it.
