I thought that around the time of the last resist party round / just prior to Halloween even there was a patch that made it so that you cannot die within a house?

    Did that get reverted?

Is the top floor of a lg tower not considered "in" the house?

Just curious I got PKd overnight on the roof of my tower by passerby's and thought I understood this mechanic...but obviously not.

I thought, certain spells have been nerfed to deal zero dmg, like meteor swarm. But my guess is, that you can still be killed with pots or other spells if you are too near to your side walls (1-2 tiles?). But that's just an assumption.

Did you die rapidly or in 1HP steps?

Sounds to me like you were visited by a vortex during the night, didn't know that was still in.

Oh, large tower... do you have neighboring buildings with LoS to the roof?

Yes and I own them all :p

I didnt lose anything. They didnt get into my house it was locked, nothing inside was touched, and other characters inside the house on the lower levels were untouched as well.

I Dont care about the death really. I just want to understand the mechanic.

I was at the back edge of the tower along the wall in the middle-ish area.

I have no idea if I died rapidly or in 1 hp step. Woke up...checked my computer and ghost was sitting there on the roof.

If it helps at all my mount was dead as well. Bonded so not really a problem just more info to figure it out.

You can still die in a house if you don't take some basic precautions.

The only change made recently was to stop spells like MS/CL from being able to kill a player in the center of certain houses.

If a player can target a summon in your house, or have line of sight to toss a purple potion or direct damage spell you are still in danger. Someone could place a small tower nearby to give them enough height to target you as well. Also sometimes when casting summons under a tower wing, the summon will appear on the roof (this needs to be tested, not sure that works here)

Staying 1 tile away from an exterior wall and off the roof of most houses should result in you being safe.

For reference here are the notes from Patch 65

Thx for the info Chris. Makes sense now.

I took zero precaution. Quite honestly I think this is the first time Ive ever seen anyone in my neighborhood other than Erlkonig one time a few months back checking for IDOCs. Other than that...this entire neighborhood belongs to me 24/7 without another soul here....ever...so I did nothing for protection.

You can see your HP reduction in your journal logs (journal data in main UOR installation folder).

Summons appearing on tower wings, eh? I am sure somebody will test that extensively (not me) ;)

No shit... I didnt know that. I might have to open up those logs on occasion to see whats there.

Sounds like theres a good bit to be learned from doing so on occasion...

    Thx.

EDIT: Where are these logs exactly? My UOR install on Win 7 is at C:/Ultima Online and I see no log folder there.

On my other installation that I used previously for other UO servers prior to UOR its located at C/ProgFilex86/EA/UOClasic and there IS a log fodler there...but it only has a patcher file within it.

Am I looking in the wrong places? Is it saved under Users? My Docs?

    Hmm found it.

journal.log in main UOR folder. Single file not within its own folder.

Its not in a log folder. The journal file (thats also its name 'journal')) is in the main installation folder. I think, logging the journal has also to be activated, which was pre-activated in the official UOR client release.

Oh hey, what a surprise (not). Isnt it fun to see some names pop up very frequently in this griefing context?! But hey, isnt it even better to know that Staff personally protects griefers + associates from Feluccan rules in towns as they see it fit, because hey, it might drive ppl away from the server when a trammel mask is griefed. *wink wink*hint hint*some people will know what I mean*

Seems like you got killed by my best *cough* friends.

Ill let theyr heads get delivered to you, once we get them.
Also: I dislike the name Adolph Hipster out of various reasons, and such accounts deserve a ban in my opinion.

This went entirely over my head.

No grief here. I got PKd for not knowing in game mechanics.

Not sure what you mean about staff protecting griefers or where the grief is.

Yea im completely clueless as to the context of all of this rofl....

I am definitly not a griefer or a scammer..... but if yall stand on the top of your tower right where I can cast on you.....well I might kill you with my red.

Ezra constantly calls me a griefer....Here was my first encounter with her in the game, ever.

I logged onto my tamer which i had logged off on the front steps of my tower. I find myself trapped there surrounded by id say 80 boxes so that i cant move. Ezra was waiting on her tamer with her pets. She kills me and loots me and then leaves me, as a ghost, trapped in a bunch of boxes outside my tower.

First time I ever met/saw her in game.........and then she calls me a griefer.
