Looking to tap into the minds of you imaginative types out there. In your UO career, have you had a fun character with skills that weren't necessarily aligned with min/max gold per hour goals? Did your character have a story or predetermined self imposed rules to play by? Did you have a character that was simply fun to play and the fun wasn't derived from loot?
lol Almost all my characters are for fun, not gold. Some, I have created a back ground history and persona. These, live their little lives within the UO world according to their bio's and personas. Role playing UO characters is great fun.
I'd have stopped playing by now if I ever wanted to reach the riches here. With the time and resources I have available it's virtually impossible to do that. I have tons of fun helping new people out on Project Sanctuary, going on RP quests with the guild, farming enough to have money to give houses to new players and weapons to the guild, etc. Never bothered entering millionaire auctions for colored sandals and masks. I also love to play my thief and it's a very slow game. But it's really fun. Definitely I'm not here for the millions.
Tracking and Stealth. Or alternatively, just be a ghost and go people-watch. It's amazing what people do in this game when (they think) no one is watching.
Sure, lemme bring my old ghost character Brawndo in here. *performes seance* Braaaawndo.... Tell us... Speak to us.... Reveal all that you've witnessed. I think he's about to speak! OOooO ooOo OooOoO ooOoooOoo oO OooOOOoo OoOOoOO ooo OOOOoo! Hmm, interesting and disturbing indeed. Well there you have it.
On another old shard I was staff on, I turned my Seer into "a ghost" and would pop in on one of the 5 or so people playing on that shard in it's dying days and would basically do "mini-quests" for them where I'd lead them to my body and they'd extract revenge on the monsters that killed me, that sort of thing. on OSI I ghosted into people's houses, caught intimate conversations, and one couple "consummating their UO marriage" until I was abruptly and mysteriously kicked out (presumably by a fellow peeping tom GM!). In one shard I made a newbie tamer char named "a cat lady" and went around taming cats in Britain, and "threw my cats" at (sent them following) people who refused to give me money for cat chow
Cat lady... Hahaha that's brilliant. That's exctly the sort of thing I was looking for. Imagine a crazy cat person, befriended by evil and sent several hell cats to take care of. They're hungry and demand human flesh! Now this tortured owner stalks the dungeon looking for fresh cat food!
Oh and on a shard that shall not be named, me and a few other people made a roadblock on the bridge leading out of Britain near the west brit bank and demanded a toll to pass. Our blockade was comprised of any tames we could find like cats, rats, chickens, etc. and boxes, tables, any sort of junk that could block movement. We pretty much clogged the entire bridge and people would try to move through it without paying. No one ever paid us but it was a riot watching people get stuck and try to pass. It was all in good fun haha One OSI story I think would be fun doing here , I would announce random keggers at the bank and throw them in taverns or empty buildings and buy up a buttload of alcohol for people to drink. I had a char that stayed drunk for a good real life week of gametime after one of these events where I binged on 100+ bottles of liquor, wine, ale and things like that. People would actually come and goof off and drink. it was pretty fun.
Actually I was just thinking about it more when I read the new posts here today... Thief was Archimedes.....I cant recall the group I ran with on that character though. You remember any of these names from Atlantic 97? Brother Slammer. Centurio. MKV (Mystic Knights of Valor). Shistosomas. Kamehameha. Im drawing a blank on everything else lol....
