    Pretty much that.

For richer players there's really nothing desirable that gold can buy directly, but plenty of things that platinum can buy directly. Until there is more high-end stuff that is only purchasable with gold, you will continue to see platinum rise in price relative to gold.

I think a lot of it comes from people testing the waters and thinking they can actually get 9 or 10k for their plat, give it a shot, and find a buyer who needs it enough to pay a little more for it. Then that price starts to become accepted when others see it and trying the price as well.

What should be the price of platinum?

Whatever people will pay for it.

Gold amount going up. Plat amount not going up as fast. End of story. The market always sorts itself out.

Massive inflation (mostly through market manipulation in housing and people triple boxing tamers) is going to ruin the economy here for players like me. I honestly don't think it's worth my time or effort to pay 7.5 milish for an ethy and etc....

The sheer greed of some of you amazes me, esp cause the game isn't fun when you have to play it like having two full time jobs.

We've already hit the 20 mil mark on masks/sandals which the anniversary ones usually are "placed" in already rich people's packs in what I don't believe is a fair manner (oh 5-10 people got 10+ mil gifts while the rest of us get shit)

Anyhow, I'd suggest anytime plat gets over 10k per that the drop rate on mobs increase to bring the price back down, or better yet, put in an npc that sells it at 9k per so we don't have to deal with these chincy fools.

It's no different than any hot item for prices to be driven up. People want their bless rune books badly, want their plat cheap. Over a year ago a friend of mine was given quite a bit of plat on a sale and their intention was to buy as much of it for cheap to sell it high later.

When I did my deco last year and needed certain items, I already was offereing at twice the cost because I needed a lot and to get them I knew I needed to offer at a price I was ok with paying and the person selling made more. Several people (some posting to lower plat) had no problem gouging me only offering to me at 3 times the cost. No one has a problem paying millions for sandals, masks, or statues, but I think those prices are too high imo. Those are people buying as a want over a need, just like plat is, go out do the work to get it, instead of thinking you can't and wanting it cheap. fyi, I don't triple box tamers and I do just fine.

    1. Triple-boxing tamers is perhaps at its best at champion spawns, which is a prime source of platinum. The people you are angry at are the same people helping drive down the price of platinum by creating more supply of it.
    2. You don't need to triple-box to make oodles of cash. In your situation specifically, if you'd just stop giving away all of your stuff and/or letting it decay every few months, you'd be beyond rich right now.
    3. Are you suggesting that staff is gifting super valuable anniversary gear to people they like? Do you have proof? Or are you just 'raging against the machine' because you didn't win the lottery yourself?

Blah blah blah - Occam's razor

plat = vet reward system = should not be outrageously priced

said players producing it are the same one's driving the value up instead of keeping it at the current rates much in the same way they did with housing

solution: npc that sells plat at a set rate or more drops

break the vet reward system away from plat and offer gifts based on time in game

and do I think the high end anny items and such are completely 100% random, not really and that's just an honest opinion and I think everyone who plays and not just a small % every year should get equal choices on items

another aspect of the rising gold:platinum exchange rate are these recent harrower changes.

public harrowers used to spread plat out among anyone who would show up, giving newbies that do not have a group to spawn with a plat boost and relieving some of the market tension around platinum. plat was more accessible then because you had people like Vella chaining public harrowers out of the kindness of his heart.

then, harrower platinum distribution changed. public harrowers don't happen anymore because inviting people to your harrower subtracts directly from your own plat reward.

there is no relief for the platinum market, now. everyone has to guard their harrowers with the utmost secrecy so that they can get the plat they worked for.

Platinum coins are much the same as diamonds. There is really nothing rare about either of them. Hording them is what is driving up the cost. Its spiked a lot this year due to Champion Spawn changes that have necessitated a cut-throat mentality over Champion Spawns.

Before, they were essentially shard-wide events where people were likely to welcome anyone to help as the spawn would get killed sooner and they wouldn't lose anything by it. The mechanics did not necessitate otherwise. This created a lot of player interaction that is quite lacking under the current system.

The changes lead directly to hording and less player interactions. Prior to the changes, all kinds of players would show up, both new and old, and would work together and have fun. The new players would have a few coins to sell off to work other characters or buy a decent house. The old players got to decorate their houses with items that had no real use in-game, aside from Blessed Runebooks and Ethereals (which should probably be put in a different rewards system altogether given their mechanical use in-game).

Some people were worried about the cost of platinum losing its value before the changes and there were complaints, but i'd be more worried about the lack of player interaction and the anti-social behavior that has been fostered by the changes. Personally, I hardly do a Champion Spawn anymore as its just drama from start to finish. If you see me there its usually because everything went to hell and i'm just trying to get things back on course for the group before the next round of thieves and PK's come through.

I don't blame the thieves and PK's. Its simply more profitable to do other things while keeping tabs on the spawns via a scout, let others do all the hard and/or tedious work, and then swoop in at the opportune time to take it all away with little to no effort for an organized squad. Its just the best and most logical method under the current system and maximizes your gains. Just like for the Harrower, its best to not tell anyone but your inner circle about it and triple box it as fast as you can.

Regardless of anything, though, platinum costs are due to hording. The De Beers diamond cartel would find this discussion amusing.
