What is/should be the price of platinum?

Hoarding only drives up prices for things people still want at those higher prices. There was a time when only three people on this shard were hoarding Studded Gloves of Mining, but I don't recall any alarmed threads about the rapid price rise of Studded Gloves of Mining.

If platinum was easy to obtain, people would ignore hoarders and just go get their own when they needed it. But the fact is, it's hard to obtain (read: rare), and that's why people are willing to pay higher prices.

Eventually the buyers will not be willing to pay 10k+ for a plat. Same goes for those "players" that are paying 13k per, who will have bought all the plat rewards they need and the demand will decrease.

You're simply wrong about the supposed rarity of platinum, but to each their own.

It's funny that UO probably teaches us more about economies, inflation, free markets, supply and demand, etc. than we ever learned in school hah.

I wouldn't stress the price of platinum too much. Yes it's kind of high right now, but you can't really pin an exact price on it. It has been going up a little, but so many things are factored into that:

The value in bulk: Personally, if I had the money and needed the plat, I'd be willing to pay more for the quantity of plat someone was selling. If i absolutely needed 100plat and someone was selling it in bulk for more, I might consider buying it for a little more than the avg price. The alternative might be cheaper, like buying 1 plat from one guy who might sell it for 6k.... maybe 10 plat for 7.5 k each with another guy... but would be a little time consuming.

Server population The population seems to be on the rise, and coming up soon probably next month there will probably be much more people eligible for the rewards. A lot of plat might hit the market. Sometimes early on people use plat for quick money and you might see stuff on the low end of 7k each or whatever. Additionally, there is the factor of more plat drops by more people farming.

More items / decor: Plat would probably go through the roof when/if Telamon introduces more/different plat reward objects. But once people bought the plat they need or could afford, not everyone is going to be able to sell their plat for a higher amount of money. At some point like Preyas said, players will have bought all they need and a lot of the high rollers won't be willing to shell out the high end prices for plat.


I highly doubt plat will fall back to the 6k range, but at some point there is a natural ceiling of the low end someone is willing to sell for, and the high end of what people are willing to pay per plat. Not everyone can or will pay 13, 14 , 15k+ per plat eventually like a few people could, but those with money aren't suckers either.
