Just realized how friggin hard these things are, or general spellcasting and physically tough mobs. I am a GM provoker/mage. Can't kill them with direct spells even with GM eval. Can't use summons because they dispel. I could provoke some of the Ogre Lords on them, provided it succeeds, but Ogre Mage's kill me very quick with their spells- from a distance, so I have to paralyze them while the Ogre Lord's chase me around. I'm not a tamer, but have one. That would be the easiest way. Dragons can't be dispelled (but he may hit them really hard physically, so you may need Vet to keep them alive) I should look to see if any player vendors sell GM instruments, and see if I should try to GM discordance (and why does the main site describe discordance as enticement- they aren't the same thing, I know one replaced the other, but they do totally different things) Do you think I should try to GM resist spells, too? Or........hmm GM resist, inscription for magic reflect, thought about using mana vampire and drain mana on them, if I can run them out of mana.
to train discordance from a npc you need to type "npc name train enticement" this will train your discordance, not too sure where it was changed in UO but this is how you need to do it in UOR. Discordance is a very useful skill and i couldnt recommend it highly enough.
Generally for the mages, what I would do is try to get it provoked on another... then drop poison fields and blade spirits of it. Two or more people is best if you can, but solo is doable.
There are many such bosses that can only be done feasible with tamers. There are ways to kill them though without one. E.g casting summons faster than they can dispell. Or the sleepers hold for Arctic Ogre Mages. And try disco, yes. But tbh, all these methods suck compared to directdragon tanking them.
I just think the description on the main site should be changed so it describes discordance and not enticement, because that's what it does, but they do two different things.
And, I've tried summons. I went after the Ogre Mage with 2 fire elementals pre-casted, then cast BS's after he dispelled my first elemental, still the delay is too long, he'll dispel them faster than I can cast them.
Adding discord/enticement to your bard will help a few ways. More provo skills (music, peace, disco, provo) on the same char get added bonus to success chances (I think 5% chance increase per skill). A monster can be disco'd while paralyzed and not break the para, or can be done out of combat. Once it is disco'd it wont wear off as long as you stay in range of the monster. Once a monster is disco'd their magery is significantly dropped to prevent high end spell casting. Unlikely on a boss monster with 100+ magery it will prevent dispel, but it will limit flamestrikes, ebolts, and explosions. When a monster is disco'd its bard-ability drops significantly increasing its chance to be provoked. Side note: Always use GM instruments, never store bought, they give a 10% success chance increase. Also for specific mobs try slayer instruments, in this case Ogre Thrashing should be very cheap and will give a 15% success chance increase.
It's a very sad truth and in my opinion a relevant problem according to many players in the community. I think it'd be worthwhile to try to address this in some way. I myself saw it as a can't beat them, join them situation and for awhile have been playing characters I didn't truly don't enjoy playing just so I could participate/see some particular content on this server. It's discouraging to me as a player to know there is content out there that a character with over a million gold in gear can't accomplish things as well as a tamer in PvM.
[/QUOTE] 20% for a slayer, and I'll only need it for the Ogre Mage's. I haven't yet successfully been able to provoke an ogre lord against one, but when I do.....I'll see what happens. Both of these can be bought from a player vendor? Know any specific ones?
When I first started here I spent a lot of time at the ogre lords in Ice. If you can get the mage provoked onto something, you're good. Just keep spamming blade spirit over and over, he wont be able to dispel them all!
I have tried spamming blade spirit, one by one he dispells them all, sometimes one almost instantly, sometimes it takes a few seconds, but because of the casting delay I can't cast them fast enough. Maybe it will work, if I'm very lucky, but mostly likely not.
But, on of the other hand, which you may already know, tamers don't do PvP very well, a few toons could swoop in and poison/massacre him with weapons, or spam EV's and BS's so fast he won't be able to dispel them fast enough. On this shard you have limited pet slots. On another I play on, there were none, and I saw a group of pkers kill a tamer with 20 dragons
So what if you just removed dispell from the AI spellbook? Then you don't have to dick with dispell success rates or anything that could change other parts of the game. Warriors could carry blade scrolls for when bosses spawn and whack away until the blade died.
You can kill them with a simple mage. 1) Summon a deamon. 2) Meditate. 3) Cast Blade Spirits, hold cursor for 1s. 4) Drop blades and then as quickly as possible: 5) Drop EV 6) All kill 7) Start spamming blades. Sometimes it will manage to dispel everything, but I don't think it has ever taken me more then a few tries to get it done. The idea is to hit him with 3 summons at once to get a head start on the dispels. Just be careful not to hit your own daemon with your other summons. Also, daemons are absurdly difficult to dispel here.
This. Simple solution without affecting any other game play. Just like mind blast was to be removed from AI spellbooks, this could change farming for pure mages...also adjust level 8 summons so that they can have two demons!
