You know how things sometimes get around here in the forums. But still, I apologize for feeding the animals. *bow*

To be fair, trashtalking is definitely high on the list after GMing thievery, so its not completely off topic. Ahem.

Back on topic, Im really enjoying toying around with various mechanics to try and find ways to steal from those who are rather... skittish. I managed to snag some plat by chasing someome around on horse back til they ran from the bank, then hiding my horse and waiting out front stealthed. If they came from a differenr angle Id mount up again. But forcing them into a tighter area I managed to approach, wall, steal in the 4 seconds before they recalled.

Im investigating how to do cooperative theft now. Having a second player handle walling or herding could be a huge boon. But anyways, just because you GM'd it doesnt mean you dont have any more skills to gain...

You mean to tell me there's another black market economy here that I haven't heard about?! I can't imagine it pays as well as grabbing vanqs at the banks.

Well this isn't something you can reproduce on every theft, but if you see an opportunity I strongly encourage you to try it.

Step 1. See other thief robbing someone.
Step 2. Position yourself next to their mark.
Step 3. Wait for them to successfully rob the mark.
Step 4. Wait for mark to say "F-ing thief"
    Step 5. Rob the mark.
Step 6. While robbing the mark, say "I know right?"
    Step 7. Escape successfully.

Didn't even snag anything good. Just a few nightshade. But I'll take their disgust or rage as prize enough.

I agree 100%. Thieving is pretty popular. The efforts in making thieving and trapped boxes era accurate would not be a waste, and would be appreciated. I'm a little confused as to why mining has gotten more attention than thieving. Thieving is a huge part of the game, and i think, is one of the most unique aspects this game has to offer. It should be accurate, and then maybe perfected as well.

Hey, just to bump up the jam, new thief here, being confused and couldn't find answers so far:
Haven't GM'd anything so far so that might change on 100, but I found out that no matter if you're hidden (or stealthed) as soon as you hit the Stealing skill you are revealed, is that correct?
Also, there's no chance to not turn grey on either a fail or a successful steal, right?

So how do you approach stealing from players if they're not AFK, you can't steal the item while hidden and they're definitely being able to see the grey name flashing up as soon as you make the grab?
I currently do the thing where I hide, snoop them hidden to see if it's worth it, reveal and go up to them seen, snoop again, use Stealing skill, keep up the cursor for 10sec and then steal so so I can immediately hide or run a few feet and then hide. But this feels really not how you're "supposed" to do it.

Soooo....any info on these matters would be greatly appreciated

    Correct.

I've found stealthing to be very helpful. Then again, sometimes I just run up on horseback, snoop, and steal. If you're fast and aren't digging through a thousand bags, you might be able to grab something before the mark gets antsy.
