I was wondering the same thing about teleporting within a house. Not out of not wanting to take the stairs, but because, on my sandstone, the 1st floor porch is publicly accessible of course, but I wish for the roof to be as well. The inside of the house is NOT publicly accessible, however, as it is where I keep my fishing storage and stuff. I don't wish to place a ladder because it would kinda ruin my decor a bit. Being able to put teleportation tile on the porch and roof would look so much better.
@Chris will teleporters be permission based (friends or co-owners only) or free to use for anyone that walks on them?
This is something we are currently discussing. Most likely we will add a simple teleporter control menu that is accessible by clicking either side of the teleporter pair allowing for players to set the options they wish. Much like a secure container on a house. Owners, Co Owners, Friends, or Anyone. These items will not survive a house decay however. When a house decays they will function like any normal house addon. This is necessary to avoid situations where a player could replace a house and teleport into a linked house. Or where pairs of teleporters can be broken up. Update: They can however be returned to deed form at any time with no limitation. So you can place, remove, place remove without any restrictions. They must be placed by the home owner however. (And will have a short range of functionality)
So would it be an accurate statement that these could be a replacement to a trash barrel security setup? Meaning the wall would never have to be broken to pass by friends/co-owners? You could just teleport to the other side of the table wall if you're of the proper permission?
Interesting, but yes, based on how I described it, they could be used in that manner. Just keep in mind that the exact function of these items is still being coded and we will most likely open a dedicated thread to discuss their uses/limitations/security functions that are applicable to a Felucca world.
With these changes (CY wipes + proposed teleporter tile friend/owner restrictions) we are going to effectively let vet players (or players who donate to the shard) have 100% secure houses. I think this is completely incongruent with a Feluccia shard, and the stated goal of "perfected". End game here makes house loots a thing only newbies experience, or those unable to pay to play (explicitly against the idea of advantaging players who pay) --- players that are least likely to be able to maturely absorb a house loot. We're not talking about z-axis bugs to break in to houses. Any house loot is because a player messed up and added risk to their play style. Friend/owner only teleporters + CY wipes reduce that risk of mess up to zero.
Everyone should be able to play in a completely risk free environment... on any of the many Trammel shards out there. Otherwise, inoculating players from risk that they themselves create is diametrically opposed to what this shard is supposed to be about. House loots do not occur without player mistakes/risks.
That's true, but it really is a pain in the ass to have to detect hidden and then wait for some retarded reason before I can use my axe to access the secure part of my house. If @Chris would do away with the wait time between detect hidden and using an axe I would be content!
And a secure courtyard isn't much different than a teleporter that only owner/co-owners/friends can use. It's just a cheaper option then buying a fort/keep and a moat!
Except there are 100 things a player can do to accidently let someone in their CY. A secure teleporter feels very immune to those mistakes (lose a rune, gate, etc). The end game of the owner/friend teleporter is every house of any size having a small public house next to it that the owner can quickly run in and zip to their 100% secure home everytime with zero risk. Is that really "perfected"? Feels more "protected" (or coddled) to me. House looting is an established part of the game, and l'll gladly sit for 3 hours waiting for someone to get home to get a crack at seeing if they make a mistake. And I'm not alone in that, I'm sure. Edit: also, if you're just trolling me, well done.
lol, I'm not trolling. I understand that play style, but I would just enjoy not having to deal with detect hidden and a trash barrel every single time I need to get past my table walls and I would donate more if I had to just to not have to deal with it.
