I think the first premise we're missing is that in UO, there is no "Government". There are no taxes. Everything is a free market. I am 100% mexican. And no, I don't think that having a government is socialist, until it tells me that it is closing the gap between what I can own (being the richest and hardest working), and what an eventual player (not as dedicated, but who can easily have 3 homes) can have is reduced to nothing. When you dictate that I can no longer spend my money on something because it damages the oportunities of the less dedicated, then I do have a problem with that. As per Merriam-Webster It is pretty clear some people wanted to "administrate" (limit) the distribution of goods (properties). I think people should be able to own the same 15 houses they can now. Not 30 or 100. Again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! And 15 houses per player leaves well enough for others when there's 3,300+ plots of land to place houses. I sincerely hope we reach the point we can't place even a small house. That would mean a VERY full shard! Provo-housing: I think is different in the sense that one affects actual game play mechanics, and the other affects game style. Semantics maybe, but one is an active skill you use and the other your right to property ownership.
Demand too high, eh? I wonder what the effects of massively increasing house deed prices would be. I've never understood why you can farm up enough gold to buy a deed for the largest house in the game in a matter of a few days (or even one day), especially given the limited number of places available to place it.
He lost interest after giving his opening and definitive argument of everyone being an idiot asshole, of course.
Sorry boss! Was a busy weekend with the family + getting prepped to fly out for work today. Once I get up to site I'll write some replies. However, a couple burning questions are... is condemned status a real thing? What would be the parameters? I'm also changing my tune on the one house per account for active players but still don't see the need for more than one house per account for inactive players if condemned status goes tits up.
If I'm remembering correctly, condemned status happens if the house owner hasn't refreshed the house in 90 days. Then at some point they have an X amount of time to refresh before it decays, friends or co-owners will no longer be able to refresh. Can't remember the specifics but might be on the housing guides maybe...
Halabinder: Yo can you log in and refresh your house it's in condemned status. Geebee: What is that? Halabinder: It's when I can't refresh your house anymore. Geebee: Why? Halabinder: Because it's gonna solve the housing crisis. Geebee: WOW there is a housing crisis? Halabinder: YAS and your log cabin is causing it now @#*$ing stop asking me questions and log on and refresh your house! Geebee: You're mean I don't want to play with you anymore.
Pretty much that. 90 days after a character from the owner's account has refreshed last, the house goes into condemned status and will no longer be able to be refreshed by friends/coowners not on that account. It will go condemned regardless of the decay status it is at the time, and will fall depending on that status.
Was this on this server before? I've never heard of it before this thread. If it was, why was it removed? Has it been successful on other servers? Just reading the thread, outside of all the dogshit that guys have posted, this seems to be the most common theme. If it could work, it would be the reason why I'd be okay with more than 1 house per account as it ties in with my original post of saying that active players should be exempt from the rule.
"Has it been successful on other servers?" Well, a shard I played on previously had it. The timer was 180 days I think. There were no spots for a brick or larger for long after everyone had quit and by long I mean years.
It was 6 months on UOSA and it's been disabled here for almost the entire life of the shard if I'm not mistaken. It'll come back on eventually but it's not going to change much of anything at all. The people who are serious about keeping their stuff will just have their friends login to their accounts for them.
What happened to that crystal ball of yours that allows you to jump to conclusions? Refer to opening post.
So I have a friend who made a few chars here and decided not to play. I asked telamon if I could use his accounts until the ability to move toons over was allowed, he said I had to stick to my 3 accounts. Is this not really the case?
Man this thread is a shit show. I would like to preface, that I am not a vet. I started roughly about the same time @Vandalin began. This is about a month or two before yourself and neither of us are close to being considered veterans. I am also glad that someone has brainstormed the idea of condemning as a solution but @Blaise brings up a valid point that it would not be much of a hurdle. Although we are excluded to three accounts, I believe we are still able to log into other established accounts. The only person you need to convince is Telamon. Although you may want to rally up support, this isn't a democracy. This current governance is an Monarchy and although, he may be very reasonable and open to listen to your opinion, that is the only said person you may need to convince for change. Aside from that, this seems more of a thread to complain. I do not know you nor am I trying to attack you, but singling our specific people for their "short sighted-ness" or ignorance does not bode well in your opening post, especially if you're going to ignore them because of conflicting views. Admittedly, I skimmed through this thread since it seems like 7 pages of jack-assery. I hope you find a solution to your housing "problem." I don't believe there is a problem, but then again, I don't invest my time in things I don't care for.
Correct. This thread and most others in this forum are "complaints" of sorts. This was a thread to come up with solutions to a problem that may not be large now but as the population grows will only get worse. Nipping it in the bud so to speak. You cant go to your boss with a problem and no solution. If we, as a group, come up with something that is reasonable, he will listen, hopefully.
