Hello folks, my name is 3HMonkey, I am very new to the server and what I can see so far is what I love on Ultima Online. I am a long time developer from Germany and I have been scripting over about 10 years for and with RunUO. After two own shards, one of them was sold to another community, I decided to take a little UO break. That means I decided to quit UO for the rest of my life. But !!! Now I found this server and the "old" feeling came back in my life. Like I told you before I am a developer in all kind of programming and scripting languages. I have been thinking about how can I personally make UO and its gaming experience better. What if there is is client out there which facts all my wishes? What if I want to play UO in Fullscreen-Mode including resolutions up to FullHD without loosing the feeling of the good old 2d gaming experience and many more? So I decided to start searching the internet. I found some interesting projects like javascript clients and some other solutions until I found an old dead project called UltimaXNA. I was impressed!!! After a while of testing the client I determined that it was very bugy, so I decided to start program. Why I want to tell you guys this? I am looking for a server where I am allowed to customize the client to the players wishes to build a fully operative client for UOR for example. I don't know if it's the right section here but I just wanted to pin my opinion What do you guys think about that?
There is a pretty cool open source OpenGL client called Orion UO. Its basically a mod for the client (also runs on every UO client, Sphere shards included) as well as an assist tool/launcher (wouldnt be allowed to use on UOR though, since its able to run Steam-like scripts) UNLESS the boss gives its ok.. and there would be a LOT of fine tuning needed first! Any thoughts about it @Chris ?
so you were from Defiance, I played there in 2006-2007 (Defiance AOS not UOR). really enjoyed auto CTF events. hoping to see same kind of auto ctf events here.
The only real "qualm" i am having with Ultima is that once you start turning up the Resolution with razor, you can see the black bars, where the client starts rendering the surroundings. So if there is a way to improve on this one thing, and @Chris is on board with it, i would love to see it on UOR as well. Other than that, i deliberately play on UOR because i want to oldschool feel and client, not the new "enhanced" one. So it is a definitive "maybe" from my side! Also: Yay Germany, ich bin immer froh wenn ich noch einen aus der Umgebung sehe
Yeah, that's pretty annoying! I love the old client (and I still love the look of Ultima 7), but I wish that the client could be modified to make change of resolution easier and to get rid of that black bars. I read on another forum that they would be looking into the possibility of using a modded client with increased radius. Maybe that's a possibility here too. Kann ich nur bestätigen! Immer gut, mal ein paar Leute aus der Heimat zu sehen!
How about some larger text so I don't have to strain my eyes and look at my journal to see what people are typing sometimes?
What about making Party and Guildchat readable in the Journal as well Paddy?? I think this is a very good idea, even if I got used to have a small 960x700 game window, which works nice with 3 accounts running at the same time anyway. PK's might not like if we would use higher resolution as then we also could be able to escape much more erlier then before, if escaping is your goal that is. It means that you most likely need to have the UOR client as base with all its customized files, like the Ocllo dungeons, instances, special events and all that and more.
I'm talking actual in game text made bigger so it is easier to see that way we wouldn't need to check our journal so much haha
I'd be completely happy with a 200% stretch or double pixel resolution (@Erza Scarlet or Orion!) so i can friggin' see the game client better. Granted having a super large resolution screen hurts my playability more than anything, but DAMN!
Damn, your screen is covering a whole wall and more. What is it in the tiny window up on the left side??
I disagree. The current fog of war settings here are a pivotal part of balance issues many don't think about. The exploitive potential shown in the OP's example pic is very high.
I am new so my opinion might not be anywhere near close to true but from what i read on the forums, mages domniate quite a lot, so a bigger vision range might actually help mitigate that and promote some more warrior play? But just to be clear: I love the server and ruleset as it is, this is really just a hypothetical discussion for me ^^
It wont matter, server isn't sending out packets for other mobiles and items outside the range. You could make a client that equate 1 pixel to 1 tile, and still server would send out the same little 20 tile radius section and nothing more. For the rest you just see the static map.
I'm still playing at the maximum possible resolution to the limit of black unmarked zones and ready for experiments, but this should be in the framework of updates and improvements that do not affect the classical perception and old graphics with the outstanding all of our favorite gameplay from the last century! For especially careful, the voice given by me does not correspond to reality due to irreversible circumstances
