Vendoring dead. Vendor houses. Dead. Sure occlo will always do well but even some of the vendors in there are dead. Why?
There are two maybe three successful houses. Yours is for sure one. Even the prices of vendor houses has come WAY down
simple. its easier to put a post on the forums. people sell anything and everything on here. personally i think that the trade forum should be kept to rare items like - slayer weapons, anniversary clothing, ethys/runebooks, real estate etc. or any very expensive singular items all consumables shouldnt be allowed to be sold on the forums. vendoring would quickly become extremely popular again
Summer, play time will start to drop and vendors will become empty for awhile. Then the fall rush will birth new life!
Because it's very time consuming and tedious to run them. Try it yourself and you'll see. It's also not super profitable, only certain items are. More efficient to make gold in other ways.
What you mean you don't need daily spawning rares?! Or outrageously overpriced stuff at the yew bank mall?!
That would kinda screw newer players who aren't in a position to buy or stock a vendor house... and would probably lead to more random small vendors with not much on them, unless there were some big malls that rented slots or something.
1. People tend to make their own crafters for common stuff 2. No matter how odd the piece... Vesper Chair, if you don't carry it when that 1 in 1000 buyer wants it, your shop is shit 3. Perceived Safety... Banks, then Gates, then GZ. if your shop is not there, no one wants to risk going out in the world 4. No on wants to pay a fair price - Barbed leather = 25g per piece, 50 pieces to make a set = 1250 cost to make (forget what it took to gm tailor and the sewing kits and the vendor fees) Whats the going rate for a suit? 1399, 1499... I have been selling at a loss at 999 and STILL they are not flying off the shelf 5. See #4 then apply to colored armor... don't get me started 6. See #4, then apply to potions - avg gross profit on a keg/100 potions is 300-400g, before any vendor fees, skill costs etc 7. 4-6 require raw materials - Farming time to get them? Buy them from Others? both take time and capital 8. Vendoring is not like farming. You can just decide to do it one day, make a ton of gold, get bored, leave it for a few weeks and come back. you have to build a reputation and have shit in stock when ANY GIVEN BUYER wants it, not when you feel like it. You may have just stocked, got bought out in 1 hour, the next hour 5 people come by and you are empty - Your house is shit, those 5 don't come back 9. There are better quicker ways to make gold... pick one, dexxer, mage, rare hunter, bard, tamer, miner, cotton picker -EVERY SINGLE ONE can make more gold per hour 10. Fly by night shops... pop up, sell way under costs, folks think you are overpriced piece of shit and don't come back... until that fly by night guy is gone and there are no sub cost deals... True vendors love that aspect of the game and are sick of hearing that VENDORING IS DEAD. If its dead is cause you made it so. Every time you make your own shit, you kill it. Every time you make stuff and give it away for free you kill it. Every time you compare a one time sale or a fly by night shop to a true vendor house you kill it. Vendor houses need patronage, they need to pay attention to the market, what sells, what their competition is doing. They need to find what they are good at selling, what they have supply for. But they absolutely cannot survive without customers. THATS YOU! Stop bitching and whining about "Vendoring is Dead} or "This place has no selection, its shit". Stop making and giving stuff to noobs... Go buy it from a vendor house that has it. If they don't carry it, ask NICELY if they can. IF VENDOR IS DEAD IT IS CAUSE YOU THE POTENTIAL PATRON HAS MADE IS SO
This is the post I wanted to see, I agree with you 100%. @wylwrk and I were talking about this last night.. It's just nice to have someone who's probably the best vendor owner on the sever weigh in for everyone to see. I personally have a 6x crafter but choose to buy all my stuff from vendors who actually enjoy making the stuff and really make a go at it. I'll make tables and stuff but I can't be bothered to farm for ingots and what have you, or buying regs (the worst). I think there should be a way to make vendoring more.... important. This is the base of the thread.
There are so many players (long term too) that live within a small safe area of UOR and becoming a creature of habit, won't ever dare step out of it. Call me crazy but, just maybe what we need is a more educated consumer.
@One Much respect for you and some of your ideas... BUT Vendors are a vital part of the in game experience. I believe that people play this 20+ year old game for the experience, the immersion. To do otherwise just lessens their experience here. UO is not a binary game, to truly enjoy it a player has to eliminate the concept of winning and losing. They have to measure their success in the amount of fun or enjoyment they get out of it and NOT the amount of gold or pixels they have accumulated or number of kills they rack up or deaths they experience. Forums are outside the realm of UO. I get that people use them, like them, hell I do myself, but only because they are a necessary evil.
... side note: I've seen a few interesting auctions where the BO is placed on a vendor in game. Hey I'm offering it for x which is under cost but man.... you could go get it right now... right here for just x% more! It's a great tactic and puts the buyer BACK in the game.
Peace is right about all those points. A shop requires patrons. Peace has been in business since the shard opened just about, and he's not unreasonable about his prices or service like those other shops are (cough..yew and occlo bank..). You can help support him by being a patron. Just go to this Villa near yew gate and drop some gold on the stack locked down inside. Show peace your support!
