    What do you people say?

    Postive:

Empowers Roleplay: Multiple characters lack a precise, empirical, and generally agreed upon definition.

    Stops Teasing
: This behavior is intended to distract, offend, sadden, anger, bother, irritate, or annoy the recipient.

Unique Characters: Unlike anything else in comparison.

Stops Blue Scouts: Out of character players who are characterized by excessive exploits.

Stops House Hoarding: Strikes a mortal wound to the Housing insanity.

Population Numbers: Shows people PLAYING the game.

AFK: Drastically reduces the amount of AFK people.

    Towns: Increases activity.

Reputation System: Players will actually think twice about being a Blue or a Red.

    Nope, just nope.

Given the 700 skill point cap, there is no way you could really play and experience the whole game with 1-3 characters.

It's an interesting thought experiment. If you could one have one character in the game what would it be?

The game is so diverse in options and so limeited in skill cap to what one player can be.

    All of them.

Did this a year or so ago. It was a ton of fun. One character that played through all of the skills trying to coincide with the virtue system.

The triple accounts might be a bit much... that I can maybe agree with.

But only one character? I'd be gone in a heart beat.

It's definitely an interesting concept, raising the question "What type of build would you play, if you could only choose one?"

Here's an idea.... issue a challenge to vets to play only one character for an entire month, and then make a thread where people could talk about how it's going, what they're playing, challenges to playing one char, and so on. Then before the month ends, like say on the eve of July 31st or the last day of the month, post a screenshot of the account time in the [profile settings, showing the hours played on one particular character.

As a player just coming back to UO, if I found this place I would be ecstatic, then if I read the one character rule I would just hit close on the tab and not give this place a second thought.

If you had been playing for a year+ I reckon you would probably be established enough and have enough gold behind you to consider it for 10 seconds.

I think there would be a massive drop in craft characters. I can't imagine just sitting there making armour and weapons just to put in a vendor for the sole purpose of allowing other people to enjoy other elements of this game. Yes you'd make a lot of money, to then do what with? Covet?

The 3 accounts 15 characters rule is a massive draw here, I've only used up a few slots but it's essential in my opinion to have multiple characters to enjoy this game.

I think as well lots of people coming back to UOR are probably just trying to reaquire houses, wealth and skills that they had on previous accounts. Doing that with one character? Wouldn't be for me.

Why? People did it on Siege Perilous for years.

Although it is a moot point ofc. It's impossible to enforce the account rules. Even if the server had a subscription model there would be those that legally paid multiple subscriptions or had to have accounts for their wife and kids and ferrets.

Years ago Telamon suggested that he take the trammel map and turn it into a siege perilous ruleset (ofc it would be felucca mechanics). I think at best it would have to be a closed community that staff scrutinized to be sure that players only had one character. I would have loved it - but it would have been an incredible amount of work for staff and this kind of thing is surely a pipe dream. 1 Character, 1 House, a real in game community and economy. It would bring you back to the days preUOR days when most people played one main because raising skills on 5 characters was not feasible.

Err? What is the first part of this post? I....dont understand?

"/// Gets the maximum amount of characters allowed to be created on this account. Values other than 1, 5, 6, or 8 are

/// not supported by the client.

    /// </summary>

    [CommandProperty(AccessLevel.Administrator)]

    public int Limit { get { return 1; } }"

    ^^ What does this mean?

As for the rest, I feel that this whole idea goes against the nature of this game, in that the level of player agency is unmatched. This concept would be so far removed from what this game was, and is, intended to be, as to be detrimental to not only the server, but the integrity of the game it self.

However, I do enjoy rougelike games, and this concept has that kind of feeling. I just dont think its smart to implement it in and MMO like this. Seige did it well, but that was when there were tons of other option AND the player base was x10 what it is now.

Also, can you explain your opinion in more depth on the topics you mentioned please. I would like to know why you think:

Empowers Roleplay: Multiple characters lack a precise, empirical, and generally agreed upon definition ( Can you explain more what you mean by this, the phrasing is simply confusing, at least to me)

Stops Teasing: This behavior is intended to distract, offend, sadden, anger, bother, irritate, or annoy the recipient. ( Do you really think that there wouldnt be people who would use their one character to simply troll?)
Unique Characters: Unlike anything else in comparison. (this is simply wrong, there are a finite amount of skill combinations, and even more so, skill builds that are effective).
Stops Blue Scouts: Out of character players who are characterized by excessive exploits (see my thoughts on the Stops Teasing point you made)
Stops House Hoarding: Strikes a mortal wound to the Housing insanity. ( Yes, agree).
Population Numbers: Shows people PLAYING the game. ( Define playing?)
AFK: Drastically reduces the amount of AFK people. (why do you think a single character would not be afk for long amounts of time? However, if you wanted to focus on the operative word "drastically" I would tend to agree).
Towns: Increases activity (Explain why you think this)
Reputation System: Players will actually think twice about being a Blue or a Red. (Yup!!)

To be clear, I am not trying to be a jerk, just curious about these statements!

So all in all, you have some good thoughts here, and you clearly spent time thinking about this. Just let us know why you posted these opinions, if you wish. If not, all good! Thanks for the interesting post.

In another time, yes. I think in 2017 it's not desirable and not why most people play here. I like the idea of it a lot but mostly because it would be reminiscent of the very early days of UO, which is just nostalgia and can't be recreated. So no.

Empowers Roleplay: No it doesn't People role play based on their personal playstyel

Stops Teasing: Account abuse would run rampant - make an account to be a bully on

Unique Characters: How so? Folks would just make more accounts to get to the number they think they need

Stops Blue Scouts: No it wont, you just need a friend or an extra illicit account.

Stops House Hoarding: No it doesn't, you would have to grandfather existing house owners & afterwords, back to account abuse.

Population Numbers: It never will, folks will log in with 1 or 3 accounts and leave them to earn plat
AFK: No logical basis here, folks will be afk for plat earning and training and such.

Towns: No it wont increase town activity. The same reason for going to town exists now as it would with your change. NONE.

Reputation System: See account abuse comments.

You cant get support for your idea just by claiming it will solve all YOUR perceived ills of what we have now. Logic doesn't work that way. Alt Facts don't even work that way... well maybe they do...

Super Secret - NO ONE Change will address what you state above.

Yeah, a lot of these "how pure can we make it" ideas would reduce the server population to about ten people if they were actually implemented.
