Hello Back to UO after many years after finding this shard...its amazing. But now to my quesion When mining at what skill is the probability of smelting iron ore very good? Would it be better to save my ore until my mining skill is higher, or try to gain through smelting? When different ores pop up are they only found in specific places? and is there a map of that? Thank you very much!
Warning: this information is based on personal experience with the skill IRON: Smelting is inefficient sub 55.0 real skill however viable for skilling up < 45.0 real skill (40%chance) Dull Copper - Copper: 75 - 90 Gold: 90 - GM Agapite - Valorite: not viable (agapite however can be used with about 50% chance at 90 skill)
You want to gain through smelting. Save colored ore. Separate the iron ore into stacks of 1 (by hand sadly) and smelt using Razor macro. It will help A LOT in gaining mining. The geological survey is an invaluable tool and a must use.
You can drop an ore stack into a container on the ground and use a restock agent to put one piece at a time in your pack for smelting. Pouches can be placed quite discreetly on a small forge, just be ready to scoop it up if another player heads over.
I have been trying to set up a macro on razor.....having a very difficult time need to read up on razor first....doing it by hand for now....probably half way to carpel tunnel
to be honest, smelting takes a lot of effort. better go out and mine, use the geo survey map overlay. After GMing 2 miners, I noticed that shadow and copper veins yield the best gains up to GM. Could be by chance, but for me it worked well.
set up organizer agent - ingots to hotbag in bank set up restock agent - various sizes (right click by type) of no more than 2 ore place ore in bag in bank stand near forge near bank in cove macro restock 1 pause 300 (remove wait for targets ... pretty much always) target self double click by type pause 300 target forge pause (w/e works for your connection) say bank (mostly useless unless bumped: I never needed this line) organizer 1 pause 300 target bag in bank

I did this a couple months after having bought a house with a bunch of ore. Moved it into my bank and gmed mining without touching the side of a mountain or bottom of cave floor. I did it at yew tho but works all the same. Also if you have hiding or can hide, you can do it without being seen unless revealed.
