Lets talk about housing more if recall and gate are removed. Land values would definately be different. Like any size house would be worth more depending if its closer to a town or a certain town. Example brit > vesper > minoc. Im not saying it would work exactly the way i said with values but it could. Certain dungeons may raise or lower value or just a good spot with a mixture of the 2 with distance. Land values in far off spots would be just the value of the deed and real far off islands and such may not have many people. Im sure it may be this way today with vendor houses. But it would be even a bigger change with them removed. Vendor houses would be more spread out cause people would live in a more varied area and wouldnt want to travel far. You throw in house taxes and the ability to rent and it could be the start of a good money sink/economy. Also having every bank account in each town seperate with either fees to transfer or you would transport it yourself would be another money sink/trade creator.
I walk everywhere, or moongate.. sometimes I used a horse for long journeys. It would just be an added inconvenience to players who do not share the views of others. *You would see more people with blanked out characters in each town waiting to be a 'port' whore to their alts. (It may increase the community of some banks but there are other ways to achieve this) *without poo-poo'ing on differing 'play-style choice' At least at some banks, the folks you see are actually there. you say 'hail' or comment on something, they respond, you joke around, its nice. What you're looking for is some like minded indaviduals, they are out there. Probably closer than you'd think. Probably in your backpack. * Folks act different during different times, with different characters. * You'll find them, or they'll find you. (You can count on that) Be a legend. Aside: The only gripe I see right now is; the Town criers are not utilized in full: HYPE!
So that's how only a crafter was able to steal from me then gate away! Didn't know this, i'll now add to my own repertoire of escapes.
There once was an innocent crafter, Her heart filled with joy and with laughter, She'd riffle through your things, For the coins that they'd bring, Like the wind she was without a master, - Lion
There was young gent named Cheapsuit, Who lost his booty to a cutie that went scoot, He swore to the world, "Vengeance will be hurled, That girl's arse I will kick with my boot!" - Lion
In my suggestion, gate travel would work the same as it does now in the over world. Housing wouldn't really be effected, but being closer proximity to a town might be a plus. I must add, that the housing rules were much different when I played a shard of this style, popping gates into courtyards is not very smart here. Maybe with teleport tiles via the moats system, maybe this would be a moot point anyway.
I like this idea greatly. And I would incorporate the one faction idea of making factions fight over areas of one town. I would take Nujelm in this case, make it a no mount, no recall/gate area that factions fight over with two dungeons below. One of the dungeons has no casting or pets. I dunno.
I'm in favor of places like Khaldun where you cannot recall or gate into it but you can fast travel out. Gate and recall are important spells in this game and their absence would surely diminish a great many playstyles. It's up to each individual player to decide if and how they wish to use these spells. Use gate and recall exclusively for travel and never wander the world, you may miss out on something by zooming around too fast. Never use gate or recall and do nothing but wander the world by foot or mount, you may miss something by not being quick enough. I like to go out on adventures and just walk or ride from place to place but I'm very grateful to be able to recall home if I have to be somewhere in a hurry, meet someone or leave the game. All about striking a balance.
Nujelm has an Inn you can bank from. It's a island you can't take a public moongate to and thus a place of solutide and quiet reflection where one can avoid most scrub town thieves. Leave it the fuck alone. Take Ocllo.
We bank at every bank, especially the ones that people perceive to be safe. But do keep in mind that we also like safe banks to store our goods in too.
lol who's "we"? Every town except Ocllo is generally empty of thieves. Nujelm just happens to be more awesome than the rest.
I dont think it's as simple as that, you would alienate half your players over night making trammel decisions like that. Recalling is a problem though, but can easily be solved by keeping certain places unrecallable like you suggested. However this game uses up enough time as it is without this and as the player base is much older now, most people have kids. To limit the gameplay on those players would reduce the overall time they could spend doing other more meaningful things with their time than running around getting to level 4 of shame. I think its pretty good as it is imo. But that is just my opinion.
