    Report - Event 16th sept - Destard

We where 8 members entering Destard and we fought mostly Shadow Wyrms at lvl 2 but it was very hard, specially to keep the tanks alive because of the lag as when somone got a single hit, it was to late to even cast a precasted Greater Heal, so it was very messy. Even if it looked like that tank or the one that got targeted by the wyrm where still aliove, they wasn't, so many did die at this event.

@Arawn made a video from the event and if somone where able to take any screenshots, please add them as I had to focus at healing for 100% and did not take a single one.

I am glad we went out.

I am glad we got wrecked. It was a good experience and gave us a chance to meet up and talk about some PvM tactics.

We will do better next time!

I am sorry to those who got frustrated or confused during and after the hunt. We are trying to get things as streamlined as possible!

The mistake I'd like to share from this one, so others might learn from it too, is be careful when using a "target closest non-friendly" keybind.

I used this to reaction target a (mis) pulled wyrm with my all kill command, but some of the party had become gray. I only made the mistake once, but it cost Darnassia their life, my apologies for that.

On previous hunts/experiences my targeting hadn't been an issue, however someone highlighted a solution to me. There is an option in razor so that any person in party wouldn't be treated as non-friendly, even if gray/red.

I have thinking about tactics when fighting or tanking Shadow Wyrms and similar harder targets, if it might not be best to use more similar tactics as when we do PvP, moving when get hit instead of just standing still tanking? If you move when you get hit then the mage will have a window at least where he will be able to cast heal before the targetted tank dies and another tank takes over until he gets hit ones and this should be dome in a cycle. What ye think @Lord Krake? I did like this with a dexxer when we had Kezas extreme event 2 months ago when we ended up killing Shadow Wyrms, run in, hit until I got hit ones and run off again as fast as possible and another had to be tank and run in again after I healed myself or got healed by another, back and forth. It sure did save me a couple of times, even if I got killed twice at that spot if I recall right.

So, as the guy that was there to do the TANK job i just want to explain what I was doing and what i kind of expect in that role. My job is essentially to pull the aggro on the higher level enemies, with my 78 AR and GM resit he can take some decent abuse. But as we saw he inst invulnerable.

Once i pull I try and lead the enemy into a kill zone (Saturday it was to pull the Wyrm up to where everyone else was standing in the open area). My expectation is everyone knows i'm the tank and will immediately need to be healed, especially hard level enemies that mana dump. I am looking for the mage support to have GH and Cure ready when they see my health bar drop or turn green(poison). I will pop Greater Cure potions when i can so you can focus on Heals. Dexxers I am expecting to come in tight to me while i am taking the aggro to cross heal. If the enemy switches targeting then I heal the damage taker, and the support chr cast on them instead.

I wont run when taking the damage, especially if other dexxers are next to me. So i am counting on the team to keep the heals up and bard to spam peace. That said, these things do hit hard and you will die from time.

One of the fights I pulled and stood in the middle, but no other dexxers (that i saw) came to to cross heal with he. I did get a couple heals cast my way but i was poisoned and my cure pot didn't hit until after the casts. Its one of those things that just needs practice on tough mobs. Too often the fights are easy and you can just steam roll them down and we through tactics out the door.

Basically as a tank i'm just there to have the damage focused on me so others can do their thing...but that only works so long as the team is watching my health bar like a hawk and keeping me alive.

Having a dedicated tank in situations like this is essential, so this is a great post Merek.

Just like any other large scale hunt or raid in an MMO, we need to rely on and heal up our tank(s). It is also the job of the tank to communicate what mob is being pulled, and where, and we all need to listen and be patient while that happens.

Crosshealing is unique to UO; other MMOs have ranged healing (almost exclusively), or AoE heals, or some other machination of how to keep tanks alive. In UO we need to be standing next to, or on, the player being healed. So, once again, this is why Refresh Potions are 100% mandatory during guild hunts. If you cannot move past/through something or someone, you need to drink a Refresh potion, take a step, and repeat that cycle until you are within healing distance of the tank for cross heals.

If we ever want to do some tank tests on test server, I have mod powers there and can spawn anything we need.

This actually sounds like a great guild training event to do. In a controlled environment where we don't have to worry about losing shit, reds showing up, or other concerns. Focus purely on tactical skills.

With the Halloween event coming up too the better we are at this as a team the better we will be not only in guild hunts but these special events.

Very good idea really. @Lord Krake

Well Merek, I didnt used the red and green buttons at the health bars, as I precasted GH and when health bar went down, it was to late, I casted, nothing did happen mostly because of lag and a sec later my GH targets where out. I will try to only use the buttons next time instead of precasting. When precast GH and somone is poisoned, esc will not help and the only way to get rid of it was far as I know is to cast it but I could also wait instead and hope that somone else cast cure or your pots will get you cured, maybe thats the best tactic?
