There's always a but....seriously this server is the bomb, but if we want mass number here, we're gonna have to create a pvp scene. A good server will bring in some number, but a pvp server will bring them by the hundreds. Make no mistake, both good and bad will come, but they come for the pvp. Great pvp word of mouth spreads effortlessly. We all need to start logging on our pvp character a lot more often. There is nothing the devs can do, this is on us.
Im at 98.1 LJ on my dexxer My Stun Mage just needs about 50k gold more regs in the stockpile, and I think I need to spend about 100k on pots. Im 6x GM finally with 92.x resist. Ive been prepping for "the pvp scene" for a while. And ill see you all on the battlefields of Sosaria soon Currently debating Minax vs Shadowlords... latter is cooler to me, but I have never seen any members, while Minax seems to have a decent following >:-]
This thread is meant to in a somewhat nice way, tell you pansies to get off your boats and do some pvping. I can of course cut out all the niceness and get right to it, if you like. Fish tournaments don't keep new players, pvp action does. How's that? More helpful?
You should also want PVP even if you don't take part in it. PVPers (ideally) engage in the server by farming and trading and other things as well. If PVP is what draws certain segment of people here, it's good for everyone.
Except I among many others joined and have stayed with this server because it is not only PvP focused but caters to people who enjoy PvM and crafting. Individuals like Evil Dead put on kick ass PvP player run events and dedicate their time organizing them to help attract anyone of every skill level to participate. They don't make ridiculous threads belittling Zyler's long standing efforts into attracting participation for a more relaxed crowd and saying that they don't attract new players. I have hardly engaged in PvP except for a couple ctf's and a couple of Evil Dead's events. That being said, I believe PvP is healthy for servers and though it is not my main focus here, it is a very big part of UO and I enjoy taking part in it on a rare occasion. On a effort scale of 1-10 trying to "round up the troops" for more pvp action, I give this a 1.5 Btw, plenty of people hanging around graveyards now. Round up some friends, attack blues, attack reds, post awesome pictures on http://uorforum.com/forums/photography-videography.37/ and hype it up much more than you did here.
Listen guys, maybe my thread isn't helping much, but I made it for a purpose, to try to achieve something. What purpose does all the sarcastic replies have? At least I'm trying. I've been on my pvp'er (if you can call him that) most of the day.
It's time for my pretentious, grand standing, virtue signaling moment of the day. I gotta quota to keep.
I agree with your idea in general. I also think the focus should be on encouraging people that already play here instead of hoping to somehow recruit hundreds of new pvp players.
What is the incentive to PvP? Just curious because I don't do it...and granted I suck at it. But what is the reward to actively do it other than the "thrill" of it?
Drama, shit talking, enemies, friends. But seriously, the main reward is that PvP is the backbone of PVM. In the end of the day, being able to PvP means you can farm where you want to farm during holiday events for instance. PvM occurs in "spaces", and these spaces are controlled via actual PvP or threat of potential PvP.
Sounds about right. If you are good at PvP then you typically attract attention from other good PvPers. What do you do when your group is done killing everyone off the spawn and sending them to a CSGO game? Grab you PvM toons and have your way with the event. UO and especially Ren really cater to group play and team coordination. From champs like Harry's to Anny Scavenger Hunt's if you have a group you will do much better, am I right @Hypetrain. The group I am lucky to be apart of has a excellent knowledge of this game and events, add that to the awesome PvP ability of our tight nit group only emphases how fucking dominate you can be. So you ask where's the PvP @Cheapsuit? I ask where are you, because we have been here the whole time.
IMO if you want more PVP then one way to do it is (assuming you are decent at it) to offer PVP training to players so they may learn to enjoy it. This is already happening on UOR. If you are just hungry for PVP in general then by all means start flagging yourself gray and wandering around.
