Why don't you just toss some gold at a new player or someone with a spare char slot and have them make you one? I love going to Ocllo to pay newbs to make me some newbied daggers, boots, hatchets, and gloves.
Some good ideas, some strange and horribly unbalanced ideas. I won't get in to my specific opinions though, I think Chris' replying is covering everything quite well. 1. One way purchase of Copper. No trading back and forth. This assumes that copper remains within the wallet and never exists as an item. This would provide a sink. I mentioned this in the other thread, although it might defeat the purpose of the CuB system / donation. 2. Skill purchase. At face value it seems insane, but consider that we can already macro most skills with little effort, all it takes is time. I often hear and agree that time is very valuable, so put a price on it! Specific skills may need to be excluded (taming? crafting? idk ). 1 plat per point? 10 plat? Definitely a high price. Would need to avoid a hypothetical situation of welfare plat being used for free 7xGM every X months. Both should be priced and aimed at vets with large plat reserves. I wouldn't use either of these, I'm too poor. Relatively speaking, of course
also adding a command for turning platinum into a non stealable check for TEMPORARY seconds/minutes like turning gold into a check via sayin "check #" near bank would increase usage of platinum in trades i guess. noone wants to go house purchase in the middle of woods with 500 plat in his bag. for example a command like: checkplat 500 -and im sure this community can find a logical answer/solution to the "but what will happen if u die with it" question/problem-
I vote against this, although I don't think there is even a risk that Chris would consider it. PKs already have so many advantages over PvMers I don't think we need to make it even easier. I think this would result in lots of blue PKing (a bad thing IMO) since, depending on the cost, very rich players could PK virtually without limit and casual players could blue PK at the rate that they collect rewards platinum, in addition to the ~12 times every week they can already blue PK without even turning red. If you want to PK, be red. If it was allowed only one time ever per character, maybe that could be argued.
50 plat- add a label to a container. IE you could have your chest of slayers say "Swords Slayers" on click. (no labels on clothes, weapons etc, because that would devalue all the already labeled stuff)
I would switch it up a bit and support plat for short term counts, not longterms. Have the char remain red but remove stat-loss. Now, I'm a staunch believer short term timers should be increased to be more in tune with how the game "felt" in 1999-2000. However, this would be a good sink for plat for something that is relatively easy to get around anyway. There are other great ideas: charged magic trap pouches, plat for bonding slots, "life size" animal/monster statues, a charged hitching post, door paint and container labeling. All of these I would support 100%. Blessed individual runes I have been against since the idea first floated around several months ago. It devaluates the worth of a blessed runebook, maybe not a lot, but it just makes it more...undistinguished. IF they were to be introduced, I would suggest a price WAAAAY higher than 5 plat. Much closer to 25 plat.
My only comment would be that the blessed rune is vastly inferior to a runebook and thus would not make the book any less desired or "distinguished". Why? - It is only one rune compared to 16 - It does not carry recall scroll charges so cannot be used for immediate post-res recalling But if this isn't enough of an incentive to allow the blessed rune, why not make it so that Marking the rune removed the blessed status. So every time you want/need to change it, you have to re-buy the bless deed. EDIT: And I think 30plat is an excellent cost for this blessed rune deed. Basically after one month a new player can get one. I think that's fair even with my proposal of Mark removing the blessed status.
Instead of a bounty system where players pay gold have them pay for a reds temp statloss 1plat=1hour. Once a reds head is turned in that player receives xamount of statloss. If a red wishes not to have statloss they must pay double the amount of plat that is on there bounty
True, but it is not terribly difficult to procure newbie regs, or simply run around for a minute and pick up regs from the ground that will get you to that place. I bet I can get a set of recall regs within 30 seconds of running inside Khaldun. Also at a price of 5 plat, why not get 16 runes? MUCH cheaper than a blessed runebook thus defeating the "end-game" feel of a blessed runebook. Plus now ALL your 15 chars can run around with a CY rune on them without fear of loosing it. ...actually...make it a NEWBIED rune. It will drop on reds or if inside a pouch. 30 plat does seem much more reasonable. +1,000,000
I agree with this and you make a good point. But if the price is 30p like you and I are agreeing on, then this problem goes away due to cost alone. Yes. This right here is a good idea. I like this.
which leads to that high end slayers also in the near future will still only be used in instanced areas I am against a blessed weapon system like it was on OSI (750gp for a permanent blessing until death + auto rebless? Thats way to less!) - but I am still for a blessed weapon system in some way. So I bring in the idea even if it was declined: - Temporary 1 hour weapon bless deed at costs of: 1 plat -- can only be used in a smithy (avoids that people use it just in the moment a red would come in or just in the moment they get into a pvp situation) -- Blessing is removed on death Definitifely would give the server a plat sink and would allow dexxers to use their high end weapons in the field. ---------------------- Plat to remove short term + long term counts 2 plat for each removal (removes 1 short and 1 long at once) - long term counts can only be reduced to 5, so the last count must be waited the 40hours, so nobody could just reduce it to 4, get blue, kill, get ret, reduce, get blue (...) ---------------------- Plat for give PKs extra short term counts 1 plat each short term count. - Up to their actual long term counts (cant give some blue with only 4 longterms and no short terms more than up to 3 extra counts) - Max 4 extra short term counts (4 plat value) -> able to pay for giving the PK "instant stat loss" = 5 shorts if they did not have any yet and so no more killing without risk for the next 8 hours. -----------------
talking about the blessed rune...how bout it having a recall ability but it has a cool down...60 minutes or 30 minutes something like that... add in it could have so many charges to it, that can be refreshed by purchasing additional charges? have it hold a max of like 5-10 charges at a time Edit: added to the post at the end...at the same Pirul posted below me
Simple economics. Supply is to great, which devalues the product. So you need new and fresh ideas to get the gold and plat off the server. In real life, our bills and taxes pretty much soak all of our paychecks up. In UO there are no reoccurring bills, and there are no taxes. So this gold/plat piles up and up and up. Then making the price of houses and other good over inflated, all because we cant figure a good way to get the gold/plat off the server. Since I have been here the best thing I have seen people tossing money at was the "random Christmas mask" the value of HC was way up and people couldn't stop rolling for them. This plays on a basic human principle, the game of chance. I have asked many times for a slot machine. You might remember these things, most of the time you would win nothing or a bag of 50 each reg. Sometimes you might win a check for like 50k or 100k. I remember the accumulative jackpots that increased each time the slot was played. Why not take the jackpot out and change it to a chance for past sandies, mask dyes, rares etc? I am sure someone right now is like FUCK THIS. But look at the problem. Most people will only spend money on shit they don't have or for a chance to win something. That is what this game is all about the RNG for the great drop. Well why not help the server while trying to help yourself. Try this slot machine out for a little while & I bet you will see more gold/plat being spent on this then any of the other ideas. Unlike the above ideas, once you get it you don't buy anymore, thus making plat stale again. These slot machines will continually remove money from the game while giving you the opportunity to get something you don't really have a chance at any other way. @Chris Slot Machine Please!!
I'm a firm believer that the blessed rune, if implemented, should not have a self recall, even if it costs more. If you want that, get a runebook.
to take it a step further on the blessed rune, have it have limited functionality...ie cannot be marked...make 2 available....1 for ocllo, 1 for bucs den ( i think reds are safe there), that will cover both the blue and red players . This will give it appeal; keeping blessed runebooks very viable, and functional use as an Ohshit button or recovery after a mishap to get to safe/safeish zones
You guys only want a blessed rune because you don't think you can save up for a full rune book. You are missing the point all together....
I really like the blessed weapon idea. Only non-crafted weapons. So no runics. Vanqs so easy to get and high end slayers are only used in instances. How would that be so bad? People could bless their high end slayers and actually use them. Tamers have bonded pets, mages have cheap regs, warriors need some love! Edit: or only slayer weapons!
My Plat wish list: - Ethy polar bear mount.. maybe other mounts enter the store at even a higher premium cost. I would find a way to throw down 1k or 1.5k Plat on such a thing. I am not sure what other premium mounts there should be.. I just want an ethy bear! - More hair dyes! 4th anniversary has came and gone and there was no hair dye for golden hair.. the blondes on the hair stylist aren't what I wish for. I actually dyed over a golden/yellow special dye when I used my 5th year blue. Hair dye is one time use, no resale, and I can't see it hurting existing items. I've used a few of these but they are so limited in availability, and only come from so few events. Plat rewards could allow more to enter the world while dumping 500, 750, 1k Plat on some unique hair would be a sweet sink perhaps. We are all into different things, for me my weakness seems to be ethys, books, dyes, and dresses.
