I'm really excited for this patch, some friends and I already started an RP guild for undead that this patch might be nice for. Looking forward to seeing exactly how all these items will play out. Guild Improvements Created a system in which guilds can be allied with various NPC groups Added two initial groups for alliance, orcs and undead. Allowed guild stones to be assigned a NPC alliance type Allowed regions to be assigned a NPC alliance type Allowed monsters to be assigned a NPC alliance type Created a few additional AI handlers for monsters to handle dealing with allied players. New trolls also, which is something I always thought UO dropped the ball on. So much lore in other fantasy mediums exists on different types of trolls and we always only had one weak troll type. I really like the looks of this patch, Telamon!
This is very cool Some of the most fun I had in UO was interacting with roleplayed orcs and undead groups. Bravo for giving that style of play some love. New trolls are nifty, too
"Your digging has disturbed a cave troll!" My miner was barely able to escape this troll's lightning bolts and fierce axe... beware!
Interested to see how the mining changes affect things.. Part of me is worried! This could cause an unreasonable surge in ingot prices.
The OP leads one to believe these monsters just randomly appear in their home areas. Are we to believe then that they are spawned by mining caves/mountain sides or chopping trees?
I thought I saw Telamon say that their spawning would be triggered via 'magical means' last night in IRC. Sounds like ReZon triggered them just based off of ordinary mining though. I think iron ingots are pretty much bound to the 8g pricetag, with a slight markup for bulk orders, because you can always buy them from NPCs for 8g. If supply goes down, people will simply start purchasing them from vendors, just like how people buy bulk regs and resell them today. Also GM miners should never fail to mine iron ore. The only thing this patch impacts, in regards to iron ingots, is the triple shovel mining that some people were doing and a very slight increase in delay for normal mining. Colored ingots are perhaps a different story. There will be less supply going forward, but the 50% consumption on failure instead of 100% means you won't need as many as you do currently, so demand will go down. Whether that ends up being a wash or not, I guess we'll have to see.
Curious to see what the deal is with these "cave trolls" and "mountain trolls". And perhaps equally importantly, what the thought behind them was.
Cave, Mountain and Forest Trolls can be awakened by a combination of magic and mining in certain areas. The average miner however will rarely disturb them in their lairs. If you are paying attention this will provide a welcome break from watching your miners, if not they could be a dangerous addition. However these new monsters provide the chance for great rewards should they be found and defeated. Each troll also has a few locations they can spawn naturally. Cave Troll Mountain Troll Forest Troll Basoosh is correct, the changes were made to balance each other out. A future patch will see additional changes to smelting allowing more ingot recovery while smelting crafted items.
Sounds like the vein changes impact oak as well? If it does, oak is probably taking the biggest hit of anything here. Oak seems to have a ~60%-ish harvest success rate, but all oak products have a 100% craft success rate. So basically, supply goes down, demand remains the same.
This will be addressed in patch 51, with the addition of 20-25 new oak craftables, with higher failure rates for the resources required. These craftables will be included in the carpentry bulk order deed system leading to and increased demand/consumption of oak boards. Not currently, however we have discussed that and you will most likely see that soon. These monsters can be found like other boss monsters, in certain spots in the world linked to similar spawn.
This looks like an epic patch and I can't wait to start diving into it. Thanks for the hard work UOR Team.
Does this not apply to inscription? I've been scribing all day to fill spellbooks for my shop and the failures still use up the same amount of resources.
That is a good question but since inscription only uses 1 of each resource it should not be affected.
No joke, I spawned 3 Cave Trolls in 10 minutes, 2 in the same location. If my bard had been available, I could have provoked the two! My miner has 71.1 real magery, and 80.0 real mining. Fortunately, I keep a mage on standby! Not complaining, but should they appear that often?
It appears to be pretty random. I got maybe 3 in an hour or so... but they were all almost back to back!
